WELCOME Gym Rats!!!

Recommended Posts

WELCOME:welcome: to the rest of your life!! You've taken that step to get healthy, fit and FABULOUS!! Well that calls for getting up off that couch :behindsofa: and GET MOVING!! :target:

So what is your plan for today? What is your workout plan for tomorrow? Next week? C'mon get it going!! Anything is good and having a plan is the first step. Most health and fitness message boards have "Gym Rats". We do not, UNTIL NOW!!!:grouphug:

Like the header says, take a number but don't you DARE take a seat. Since I started the group I am Gym Rat #1. So... who's #2??? :tea: Note: You do not have to have a membership to a gym to be a Gym Rat. You just need to be motivated and have a plan of action. I personally have never been signed up at a real gym, yet I always seem to get my sweat on.

Get real!!!

I normally work out daily. I recently injured my wrist and I've been told to rest it for a month or more. It's soooooo frustrating not being able to work out properly. I generally run a bit and do a ton of push up and sit ups. No more push ups for me for at least another month ;-(

Well dang! :( I guess that's why I always take real care when I'm running. I know I have issues with my knees and if I injure them I will be OOC for weeks... months... that would be heartbreaking for me. It would also mean me starting all over again.

I hope your wrist heals up sooner than expected. Feel better soon!

I ran 2 miles and did a ton of crunches this morn. Staying away from anything that'll put pressure on my wrist.

I gotta agree, the social group logo is perfect!! ;)

Cool idea. Love the title "gym rats". I still struggle but lately have really been stepping up my "gym game" and have started to see more results. I have been pretty consistent in going to the gym at least 5 days a week. Sometimes even every day!

I don't know if I should do more weights. I probably should. As of now I do about 40-45 mins of cardio (elliptical, cross ramp, bike, or stair master combo). And then either work on my arms for 5-10 mins or my legs.

I wish I knew how to swim. That sounds like it would be a fun way to get a good work out in. But oh I just started Zumba 2 weeks ago. It is so fun! And I sweat so much. I'll miss it this week (daughter has open house at her school) but will definitely be doing that at least once a week. :)

Hey Alex, nice workout today!! Doing a ton of crunches has never been my strong suit, so kudos to ya! I need to though, I know my stomach could use a little definition. LOL :)

Patrice! Nice to see you here! Any committment is great!! Start small and build from there. Baby steps. I always say do most of what you like most of. For me running and walking really keep me motivated so I make sure I'm doing my full 5 days with either. I have a spinner and elliptical at home too, so I also add those in during the week - but not nearly as much.

I love to swim too! I just wish the weather would cooperate so I can get in the pool. Living in CA, by now since it's almost June you'd think I would have been able to by now, but no luck. :(

Today I woke up and got a late start. I was supposed to do 30 on my elliptical but I only did 25, which I was still 10 minutes late for work... oops!!! LOL :) Oh well I'm always the first one in and no one ever says anything to me anyway. NO biggie, I'm just glad I did something on it. 5 mintues loss is better than not doing it at all.

I also did a morning walk here at work of about 2.5 miles around the State Capitol. It's always a pleasant trip with my headphones and sunglasses. Very refreshing and stress relieving.

Tonight I am going to get on my stationary bike for 30 minutes... but I'll need to put a cushion on it. I did a set 2 days ago and I tried last night but my bum was sore... LOL!! Don't have much natural padding back there anymore...

Good job! you are doing more than enough in a day! I think I'll start trying to walk during my break once or twice a day. Better than sitting in the office and should help. Good idea!

Hey Patrice, how did you do today with your walk?

I did *almost* everything I was supposed to do... I ran 3.8 miles today, but the last half mile was my slow down. My 5K (3.1 miles) I finished in less than 37 minutes. That's really good for me! Like I said, I have to go easy on my knees, so yeah, I'll never be able to pull a 17.5 minute 5K... Yes people really can do this... it's pretty incredible to say the least. I do acknowledge however, that will never be me!

I was supposed to walk another 2.5 miles at my break at work today but it ended up raining... BOO!! Oh well, next time. I've done well this week. I'll still pull out a 30 set of calisthenics tonight. It's all good!

Hey new members, why so quiet? What are your goals for the next week?

Take care everyone!

Hey everyone! I wasn't even supposed to do any workout today but I felt in a real funk. I decided to go for a walk outside in the sunshine. It was about 2.5 miles, moderate paced. I felt much better after. I hope I feel back to my normal self tomorrow. Just not feelin it today I guess... :(

Anyway, Patrice and I were discussing the 5K program in her 7th month Sleeversary thread (CONGRATS GIRL!!!) and figured I'd post the program I used here too. It's an easy one, just copy and paste it and print it out...

And get it done! :)

See you all soon!

Thanks again. Keep it up girl! I dont know why I just can NOT find the time or "energy" I guess to walk while I'm at work. It's nice out here in southern Cali too. I shouldn't make any excuses. I guess I just prefer to go to the gym. :/

Hi Everybody!

I hope it's okay to post here. I just joined the group. I'm thrilled to find this forum so thank you for starting it #1! :-)

I not a "gym rat" per se but I do like to work out. I like to say I am fit and fat! (unfortunately). I have a date for my VSG surgery coming up on June 6th! I'm pretty nervous but also excited. I have completed two sprint distance triathlons, one at Treasure Island, San Francisco. I've completed serveral cycling events between 25 adn 35 miles. The most I have done on my bike though is about 45 miles. I have also completed a number of 5K and 10K events. The 10k's I walk run since it's too hard on my body to run for 6 1/2 miles. But I can easily fast walk them.

Currenly I ride my bike and walk and do some yoga. I go to the gym mostly for spin class, especially if I can't ride outside for whatever reason. I also like the people there :-) I also go to the gym for yoga. I am not currently swimming so I'm not using the pool but I will again soon. I also want to encorporate weights again. I have an area set up at home but I don't know if going forward I will try to use the machines at the gyn. I have attended some group classes and they're fun but I'm thinking I would like to do more intense weight lifting at some point to re-build some muscle and for better toning.

One of my goals is to complete a century on my bike for my 50th birthday. I am currently 48! Yikes!!! Time flys! :-) I am hoping this forum will help me with this goal. I am feeling concerned that I will not be able to work out much once I have my surgery next Monday, at least initially. I was told about one month but that walking is okay.

I was wondering what other's exeperiences are with this. How soon before you resumed a more vigorous work out schedule?

I am looking forward to getting to know you all and to encourage eachother forward.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
