MegInNOLA 531 Posted May 23, 2011 YES!! In the last 4 days, I have experienced a total turnaround. Before: Unable to eat more than 2 tablespoons at a time of a very limited number of foods--all of them had to be yogurt-textured... I threw up almost every day, multiple times, even on some foods that were supposed to be "okay," like scrambled egg or blended Soup. My sleeve was evidently really upset with me. I was kind of low-level queasy all the time and had zero energy. THEN I finally figured out (duh! for a smart girl, I can be very clueless!) that the pain I was feeling almost constantly was ACID. (After my surgery, I didn't get a prescription for an antacid, and post-sleeve acid feels really different from the rare instances I had it before.) Well, once I figured that out, I started a regimen of Prilosec first thing in the morning and Pepcid Complete at night. WHAT A DIFFERENCE!! I still eat very small amounts of food, but I can tolerate shredded chicken or hamburger meat with a sauce, refried Beans, tofu, cream cheese, all sorts of things that weren't working just a few days ago. As I said, still very small amounts, probably between 2 TB and 4 TB max, depending on the food, but that's exactly what I wanted my sleeve to do--limit my volume while letting me enjoy regular food. I'm feeling comfortable and happy and energetic, and life is SO MUCH BETTER!!! Yay for better living through chemistry!! Meg
Virginia S 13 Posted May 23, 2011 Glad you figure it out! You and I were sleeved on the same day, but I've been on prescription Pepcid since day 1. I do take an occasional Tums for break through acid - cracks me up that one Tums is all my tiny tummy needs. I can eat a little more than you, more toward the 4T end of the range, but haven't seen any increase since I started eating foods. Next week I get to try regular solid foods. I'm afraid that'll limit even more what I can eat. I'm still getting most of my Protein from supplements; I eat almost exclusively Protein foods, just not enough of them. But like you, I feel good. Weight coming off slowly but surely.
