Walk Walk Walk. I read that every time I come on here. What I want to know is, how can you walk so much after surgery? I am on day 4 and it still hurys to walk. Maybe I am a wuss, maybe it is because I had 7 incisions, but it hurts. i am able to take tylenol for the pain, but there is still pain. i also have a weird swelling around one incision. When I go back on Friday, I will point it out, but besides the gas pain, it hurts there the worse. I am just curious about the people that are up and walking through malls and shopping areas 2 or 3 days out. How do you do it?

I really did not have too much incision pain. My pain was GAS!! That was the worst pain ever. I would much rather had incision pain! That gas pain is NO JOKE!!

Just do what you can. I promise you that every day does get better. I don't know how far out you are, but about day 4 was much better for me!!

Do what you can and try to do a little more each time, it will get easier....I promise!!

Hugs,

Kelly :)

FWIW, I was only walking the hospital halls starting day three post-op, and that's all I was doing in terms of walking for the first week. After I got home, I started to go on walks with my husband and our dogs, but only just short ones at first.

I was walking some on day 2, forget sooner. I did that much because I wanted out. I am able to walk more on Day 4 (today) but it feels like I am hunched over. I just wanted to see where everyone was, or if I was just being a lazy wuss about pain. i am glad that I am not the only one taking it slowly. Thank you rolleyes.gif

I walked on Day 2 after surgery just so I could work the gas pains completely out. It seemed to help a lot because the next day it was so much better, almost incredible to be exact! I actually went shopping on Day 3 with the patient advocate and felt really good afterwards. I am almost totally back to normal. We went to the Audubon Zoo in NOLA this past Saturday and it may have been a little too much but I didn't notice until I stopped... LOL

Pain is definitely subjective. I remember I went out for the day with friends a week after surgery and i came home in immense pain...i was so scared.

now 6 weeks later i am pain free...just go at your own pace. Eventually it'll subside. And take your meds if need be. ;)

I had six incisions and I too had one incision that hurt more than the others and still does a little bit. They don't hurt at all unless I poke on them so I am trying to not do that! :P I walked around in my house for probably the first 3 days because I didn't want to put on real clothes over my swollen abdomen and go outside! Do everything at your own pace...you are the best judge of what feels okay for you!

I predict you will feel much better by that appointment on Friday- Day 5 was a turnaround day for me but I did not really start walking until yesterday for real- before that maybe a block at most. Don't worry this early- just focus on healing.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
