How are the Florida sleevers doing????

Recommended Posts

Just doing a quick check in to let everyone know I'm doing well. Surgery was August 30 and I'm recovering at home. I will do a more in-depth post sometime this weekend, but I feel very energetic and I'm working hard to do what my doctor requires. :)

It has been over a year for me (July 14th 2011)and all is great. Had my VSG @ Orlando Regional Medical by Dr Radulescu – who hassince pasted away. Over all I have lost 85-90 lbs keep bouncing back and forth. What was interesting was that I stopped at around 75 – then took my self off ofinsulin and I lost another 10 – 15 lbs then stabilized.

The overall experience has been good. No problems –just many adjustments. I can eat anything – just in smaller amounts. I’m downto very little medication and like said no more insulin – but I am on a newerdrug called Victoza – which I truly believe I could stop if I watched what I ate.

Would I do it again – you bet – sorry I waited so long– Just turned 62 last month.

Be glade to answer any questions any of you have…

Till later

Lou

The answer to How am I doing? is Fantastic!

My doctor encourages early and often ambulation after surgery, so I've been up and about, walking (both by myself and with the dog). I even went to JoAnn's today...and drove myself!

I still have a drain which I have to empty regularly, but it's not as much of a pain as I thought it would be. I have several small incisions (either 6 or 8) that each have a few stitches.

I'm getting in my liquids and my semi-liquids (just cottage cheese and yogurt for now), along with my Vitamins. Haven't quite managed the 60g of Protein or 64 oz of Water, but I'm working on them.

In short, I feel so much better than a person who had surgery three days ago should feel. :) My pain level after surgery never hit more than a 4, and I haven't used any of the pain medication I was prescribed. I did want one dose of it the night I came home, but couldn't figure out the conversion from mLs to tsp, so I didn't take any. I know now that it's one TBS to 15mL, but I survived without it. Anyone need a cough Syrup bottle of Loritab Elixir? @@

Hi Emily! I'm in Jax too, and just a couple of weeks ahead of you. My surgery is Tuesday (9/6) with Dr. Webb at St Lukes. Did you go through Novus Centers?

Hello! No, I didn't go through Novus Centers. I went to a Seminar at Memorial (I live fairly close to it) and I was happy with the surgeon there. I have heard good things about Dr. Webb though! Congrats :) I can't wait to be sleeved!

Doing a quick check in to let everyone know I'm still doing great! I cannot believe my energy level NOR can I believe how purty my feet are these days. I've had swollen ankles and duck paddle feet forever it seems. Now, they look like feet again. I have some discoloration from the swelling, but that is slowly improving as well. I'm sleeping better, probably because I'm better hydrated and because I'm moving a lot more than I used to move. Not sure if I'm actually getting in half an hour a day of walking, but I'm doing loops around my building and adding a few more each day. I have respiratory issues that keep me from being able to go real fast, but I just keep plodding along.

All of you who are pre-sleeve, start working on the walking now. It will definitely help if your leg muscles are stronger before the surgery. My thighs ached for about 4 days after surgery because I had to use those muscles instead of my stomach muscles when I stood up or sat down. I didn't think the after-surgery pain was that bad, but I had two children by c-section. IMO, the c-sections were much more painful (the difference between laparscopic and open surgery?).

Good luck to you all!!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
