Off the wagon, I took a bite of hubby's pulled pork and spit it out

Recommended Posts

Anyone ever done this? I'm craving Protein like a muther. Steaks, Chicago style Coney dogs, and Big fat hunks of grilled salmon are all I can think about. DH brought home a pulled pork sammie. It was sitting there, mocking me. I took a bite, savored the flavor and realized this just might freaking kill me (can you imagine how humiliating that headline would be?) I spit it out. * sigh *

Day 6 post op sucks.

Hey, at least you spit it out. That it can kill you is definitely a wake up call. it isn't too far away until you can eat what you want. Good luck!

I have definitely felt the impulse- with a big bag of movie theater popcorn (our son works there) my husband left sitting on his chair- and with a roast chicken he brought home yesterday. It was just a routine thing to reach out and grab a handful or a hunk, like always,

But I have not put it in my mouth. I am Iron clad committed to this- I am NOT having 85 % of my stomach removed and not showing great results for it!

It is not so much that I really do think eating real food would destroy my new thumby as that if I do end up with a complication I would have to tell my doc about what I did and it would break his heart.

Step away from the pulled pork! ;-P

I made my own pulled pork the other day. Pork tenderloin, very lean, sugar free BBQ Sauce. It was fantastic

We cooked a pork shoulder in the crock pot with some beef broth,(trust me it is good keeps the pork moist and adds flavor) and some BBQ Sauce, minced garlic, salt and pepper. Let it cook for 8 hours. YUMMMMMMMM. Even though I can only eat a little bit. ( Usually my eyes are bigger than my sleeve ) I end up giving it to hubby to finish for me. It is soooooo good. Also since having surgery, hubby has lost weight right along with me. He altered his eating habits too. Win Win situation. :D

I've made a few pork roasts in the crock pot then shredded them. It's one of the most tender and I tolerated it well when I started normal food. So you will get to have it soon!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
