I think I love you, Pepcid Complete

Recommended Posts

SO--- I have had 2 gloriously wonderful eating days in a row with NO throwing up! (That's such a big deal to me that I almost posted in the "successes" column!!) I'm at 33 days (4-5/7 weeks) out and have had a lot of trouble with what my husband and I now think is a small sleeve plus slow-to-respond stomach swelling and acid. It feels so different from before being sleeved, much higher in the body and almost in the back of the throat and VERY painful.

I am taking omeprazole (generic Prilosec) just before going to bed, but I just started that 2 days ago and I don't think it's kicked in yet. My doctor didn't say anything about antacids, and I honestly didn't realize it was a problem until recently, and tonight the pain was unbearable. I jumped onto this website and then into the car, and my sweet husband went in and got me some Pepcid Complete--not the most wonderful taste on the planet, but oh, the relief!!

I'm wondering if y'all have antacid "routines" that keep yours at bay. I'm pretty sure this has been going on for a while, just kind of low-level, but it's not low-level any more. Is it okay to take the omeprazole at night and the Pepcid Complete in the morning? They're two different medications--but I know sometimes things work on our bodies in unusual ways after surgery.

What do you do to combat the acid?

Thanks!

Meg

I take my omeprazole when I first open my eyes in the morning. I was told to do it 3 months straight- whether acid or not. I have not had acid and don't know if it is because of it or not!

I was sent home with omeprazole from my dr before leaving Mexico with instructions to take 2 at bedtime to protect the tummy. I was also taking 1 in the morning but am about to drop that dose. It is known to prevent nausea and "fake" hunger pains. I think they usually recommend it for up to 6 months if needed. It makes a huge difference. I'm glad you got some and that it's helping!!!

Just make sure you take the Omeprazole on a completely empty stomach. I've always taken first thing in the morning, then wait 1 hour before eating anything. I start drinking my coffee immediately, but NO food for 1 solid hour. I've never had to use any other antacids in addition to the Prilosec. Now with the pregnancy, I'm on Nexium, and the directions are the same.

If you continue to take it at night, make sure you haven't eaten 2-3 hours before taking it. I had some breakthrough acid attacks after eating this funky chipotle ranch dressing with jalapenos, and I chewed on Tums, but it didn't really help all that much. Since being pregnant, I've had a couple of attacks of acid reflux, but it's been directly related to me eating then going directly to bed.

Thanks, guys. I'm going to switch my omeprazole to mornings and the Pepcid Complete, if needed, to nighttime and see if that doesn't do the trick. I did sleep very well with no reflux after taking the PC in the late evening, so that is a good thing.

Have a great day!

Meg

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support

Had a sleeve in 2017, lost over 100 pounds. Had a DS surgery this year (2025) for more sustainable weight loss. 🤞
