So there is a correlation btwn periods and post op?

Recommended Posts

Ladies, let me hear from you.

I was nursing my 11 month old but chose to stop because of the surgery and because dad was a little jealous that he couldn't soothe our second child like I could. Four days post op, my period started. I assumed it was due to my milk drying up but I see there is a correlation between this and being post op?

Do tell please.

I haven't been sleeved yet, but I know from a couple of previous surgeries, that yes, after surgery your period does come at a different time. You're hormones are all screwed up from the anesthesia and the stress of having stuff done to your body causes the period to happen sooner than it "should". It will eventually straighten itself out.

Randomly for me it was the other way around!

My period was due the day of my surgery (thankfully it didn't arrive whilst I was in hospital), and my body decided to skip one completely the first month post op - which NEVER happens to me.

Kind of settled down into a pattern month 2 and beyond thankfully.

Hmmm...I know my period got/gets crazy whenever I do "extreme" dieting (which is kind of the case now b/c I consume 1000 or less calories/day). My first period post-surgery started "on-time". But, that was followed up with another FULL period about a week and a half later. This has happened before when I was very low calorie diet. Someone suggested it may be that the estrogen "bound" up in my fat is being released and triggering more periods. Regardless, I'm not a huge fan of two periods a month.

I'm perimenopausal and had no period from January until the day I got home from the hospital on April 20. !!! As if the gas/surgical pain wasn't enough! Had to laugh, though. So yes, at least for me, I think there was a correlation--darn it!

Yes, I think there is a correlation between the surgery and your period. I started 3 days after surgery when I wasnt due until the end of May - I have seen that a few other ladies are having the same issues as well.

Dr. told me the blood thinner can cause some women to start when they weren't expecting it. I got mine immediately following surgery, 2 weeks before I was expecting it.

I have PCOS and have had it since I was 13 yrs old. Well lucky me I was sleeved March 15th and just so happened to start my period THAT day after not having one for 8 months!

And now that I'm losing this weight (52lbs since march 15th), I have been having the weirdest "periods".

Not even actual periods I guess, but like a full on "period day" a few times a week! It's driving me mad! (How many times can I write PERIOD in one post?haha)

It's like I start a period every other day and then stop again. And this has been going on for a couple months. Kinda freakin me out.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
