I just heard about Biotin, Vitamin for hair/nails. I am starting to loose my hair, has anyone used this yet? If so, let me know how it is, is it over the counter? Side effects? Very curious, I had thinning hair even before surgery!!!

thank you!!!

Biotin is sold over the counter and you will have to ask your M.D on what dose he will let you use and there is no side effects noted, I use it and Im pre surgery and havent noticed a difference. I have thin hair and nails and have used it for over 2 months but it might work for others. I still continue to use it though.....hope this helps :)

I use Biotin 2500 mcg. I find it anywhere like Rite Aid, Walgreens or CVS... and they're always having BOGO sales, so I'm always looking for a deal.

I've been using it since month 4 when my hair started falling out. Just know that Biotin does not prevent hair from falling out. It will only help with the regrowth. I've got so much regrowth I look like a porcupine up close!!! It is excellent on the nails too... my nails are grown back so much stronger than ever and they rarely chip or break now.

Good luck!

Keep taking it. We were told at the free seminar to get on it immediately if we were serious about following through w/ the program as the Biotin takes 6 months to really impact you. In theory, if you start right away, by the time you get through surgery and to the window where your hair falls out, it will be in full effect. I did buy it and started taking it but admit that I wasn't religious about it until about 1 month before surgery.

One thing I've noticed is that while my hair is thinning (not horrible but noticeable to me) my nails are still needing trimmed every week. I don't like long nails. It seems odd to me that my nails continue to grow at the same rate while my hair is taking the brunt of the starvation diet. I would so love it to have been the other way around. :(

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
