A New Me 1 Posted May 18, 2011 I have a doctors appointment tomorrow which Im sure I will get more info...But as I look through the discussions, how is it that some are doing a 2 week liquid diet and others are doing a 1 week?? I was told to do a 1 week but is 2 better??? does it depend on our BMI??
christina420 3 Posted May 18, 2011 Yes it all depends on your bmi. Anyone over 50 bmi does about 3 weeks pre liquid diet. The lower the bmi the less the pre liquid diet has to be
TijuanaPlication 87 Posted May 18, 2011 Starting BMI of 30 here and no pre-op diet. Losing weight would've meant I didn't qualify for surgery.
Valentina 2,642 Posted May 18, 2011 I think it depends on what program and what surgeon one uses. I have to do a 2 shakes (one for Breakfast and one for lunch) and a light/high Protein dinner for two weeks. Everyone that I know of who is using the same surgeon and goes to my support group is doing the same. Valentina Starting BMI of 30 here and no pre-op diet. Nancy Rivers 24 Posted May 18, 2011 From what I have gathered, it does depend on your surgeon. I will have to do a 2 week liquid diet - but during that 2 weeks I can also have some "real" food - I get to choose 6 items from a list they will give me. I was told they do this to help shrink the liver (or the fat around the liver) so it makes it easier for the surgeon to move it out of the way when they do the surgery. It's also a good way to start practicing for how you eat after the surgery.

rsr53 1 Posted May 19, 2011 My doctor is doing the same thing with me. I have a list of things I can choose along with my Protein shakes. I usually do 2 shakes a day and eat from my list the rest of the time. Yes, and drink LOTS of Water. Mine is revision surgery so the liver shrinking is important. I have 13 days to go before surgery--can't wait! From what I have gathered, it does depend on your surgeon.
