Sad but funny at the same time.... I have surgery Thursday and have to go to my mom's so she can drive me out. (Hubby has to deal with the child). Anyway to help me relax for everything, I get to take tomorrow off. With adding this off day for mental relaxation, I will officially be out 8 days, not including the two weekends. I have to go back for the last week of school... can't let them get awards without me. Does this seem like a reasonable time out? Am I nuts to go back after 10 real days post surgery?

I haven't had my surgery yet so I don't know if that will be long enough. I just wanted to say enjoy your day off tomorrow and have a wonderful surgery!

I had surgery on Monday 05/09 and went back to work yesterday (desk job). I have been exhausted both days and needed to take a nap. Today, I literally gave out at 3:00pm.

I think it will really depend on whether you are still on pain meds and how stressful your job is.

Good Luck.

I am no stranger to abdominal surgery....I've had 2 c-sections and gall bladder removal. So I thought I'd be up and around in a week or so. My doc told me to take about 3 weeks off of work...one week for pain and 2 more for light headedness, fatigue due to getting used to the new caloric intake. I might go toward the middle and take 2 weeks off.

You guys might be right on the length of time. I think I will stick with the 10 days though. I will only have a week of work before school is out for the summer and I will have a ton of make-up work to complete. I also have a great team of coworkers that told me they would help me out when I need it. I love being a teacher because of the long break. I know when I go back in August i will be a totally different person.

I had surgery on May 3, 2011 and was back to work the following Wednesday 5/11/11. I didn't have any complications and the first day I was tired, which was to be expected, but I think the best thing I did was pushing myself to get back to work, I'm now 2 weeks post op and I feel great!! I also have a desk job and that is why I only took a total of 8 days. Good luck!!

I went back after about 10 days or so and it was horrible, I had to get up and walk to keep my stomach from hurting(that was on a thursday) and so I waited til Monday to go back again for the second time and I had no problems.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
