Knee2010 54 Posted May 17, 2011 I meet with the NUT this Friday to start my 4 month pre-op diet. What can I expect? How did everybody else do on theirs? How hard is it to stay on their monitored diet and what happens on the days that I eat to much? I'm afraid I won't do well, since in my mind if I could follow a sensible diet then I wouldn't be here now.
DaniellelavonMason 0 Posted May 19, 2011 My nut had me on a two week diet n he asked that u stay on a low carb duet that consist of Jello, Popsicle broth n Protein. The meaning for this diet is to make sure your shrinking your liver so that he doesn't nick it n cause a domino effect. When losing weight your liver is the first place we tend to lose it. Be mindful that it's very important n carols dr request different one lady tOld me that she was placed on a high Protein diet n could eat Varuna meats so I'm unsure what he may suggest. I was sleeved on the 18 th of April n gave lost 34 lbs since beginning the Pre op n present. Was a lil weary becuz I can eat like 1/2 of a 3oz pc of bake fish I have cheated so I was wondering if I messed myself up like stretched my band or uf it's leakng but let hope n pray that isn't the case. Someone on the forum just infrom me that after the swelling goes down your able to eat a lil more. Good luck!!
1-4-Many 2 Posted May 19, 2011 My very strong advice is to get it in writing. If she makes hand written notes, keep them. If they have a set, specific diet, make sure you keep the paper trail. I am on my 3rd NUT at my program. (2 additional have left the program.) The "rules" came and went from "don't worry about your weight, this is all about learning the proper 'way' to eat....chew, chew, chew, no Water, time between meals" to "you need to be losing x number of pounds per month and already eating very small portions many times a day". The odd failure will be expected. You are not going to be perfect. To me the key is to be working to meet their expectations. I did that at every turn and kept detailed records. Unfortunately, every 3 or 4 months the expectations changed and I didn't do a good job of documentation. So when my NUT's would transfer or quit, I was left hanging being asked by the next one why I wasn't doing what SHE expected of me to have been doing. Over a 4 month window my guess is that they are going to be expecting to see a downward trend. Just understand what level of loss they expect (it might be as little as 2 or 3 pounds), what type of diet, and your pattern of eating. Most of that will be presented to you. But if it's not, make sure you have your answers and don't waste a month of time getting it straight. Good luck.
