Weightbgone 9 Posted May 17, 2011 Hello guys, Since my sx I have only had a BM about 5 times and I think that is crazy! before the sx I went like 2 twice a week! But I think this may have an effect on my weight loss! I went out and bought laxatives today! I am still losing but I think I can lose more if I went regularly! Is anyone else going through the same thing?
lkcraig316 4 Posted May 17, 2011 I started with the Constipation while I was on the pre-op diet. It continued for a week after surgery, but seems to be a bit better. Just remember, there's not much going in so there's not going to be much coming out. Don't let yourself get dependent on laxatives to go.
1-4-Many 2 Posted May 17, 2011 I think almost all doctors recommend Miralax, rather than any of the stronger laxatives. I had not gone for 2 weeks after surgery but I wasn't constipated there just wasn't anything much in me yet. Then I suddenly got sick last Thursday and whoa buddy did I go. So now it's Monday and nothing since. I didn't go often before either so I don't expect to now hardly at all. But again, I don't feel like I have to go so not going to worry about it much. My surgeon doesn't mind if you take Miralax every other day but he does not want anyone doing the pill type. People at the support group say the stuff works well. Miters36 0 Posted May 17, 2011 It is NOT just you at all! I am having a HORRIBLE time with constipation! Before my sleeve I went maybe every 3 days and now it doesn't seem that I can go on my own at all! I also have to take narcotics on a daily basis due to back pain so I know that exacerbates matters quite a bit but I have no choice right now. I've been trying different things like colace, dulcolax, Align Probiotics, but so far nothing really makes a difference unless I take more than the recommended dose. I am also drinking more fluids but can only do so much. I firmly believe my weight loss "stalls" correlate in part with my Constipation when I can't "go" for 4-5 days. Ugh! It's making me crazy! And to top it off, I've been stuck at the same weight for the past 7 days.(I have gone poo a few times) Thanks for listening.Good luck!
Rootman 1,101 Posted May 17, 2011 I have had an ongoing battle with it for more than 35 years. I started with Miralax daily a few years back - shortly after they went OTC. I take 1/2 cap in a small juice glass with Crystal light at half strength (can't take CL at full strength - too sweet). I tried a generic version and it just would not work, don't know why. AnewMe@28 38 Posted May 17, 2011 I did notice that I was not having to go as often after surgery. I ended up buying some benefiber the flavored kind, they have little packets that you pour into your Water bottle. It takes a day to work but work it does. Hey, it always makes me feel better. MrsPositive 5 Posted May 17, 2011 My nut says this is normal because your whole system changes. You develop a new normal. Also she said Mirilax was okay. Goodluck. Joan

aaa 3 Posted May 17, 2011 A couple of tablespoons of flaxseeds per day work miracles!
Raine 170 Posted May 17, 2011 Pre surgery never had an issue, now I go maybe once every two to three days. My docs office said that was great so I guess its ok. Just feels weird not to everyday.
feedyoureye 3,087 Posted May 18, 2011 One tablespoon of Metamucil in my Protein Drink in the am, and all is well. I tried Benifiber, and it didn't work.
Vsg4lyn2011 0 Posted August 21, 2011 One tablespoon of Metamucil in my Protein drink in the am, and all is well. I tried Benifiber, and it didn't work. Please excuse my ignorance.........Doesn't Metamucil expand and thicken the shake? I thought Metamucil had to be drank quickly?? I've never tried it. But I use Benefiber daily and it doesn't seem to do anything, I'd love to switch to something that does. I used to go daily, now I've only gone 2 times in the 11 days since surgery. Thanks, Lyn

Drink lots of Water too... prune puree or juice might help as well...
Adri 40 Posted August 21, 2011 I'm on my second dose of miralax for the day...ugh. I lost track of how long it had been since I went. Here's hoping it works.
juliarh 35 Posted August 21, 2011 This is my miracle - swear to God! I had so many Constipation problems, you don't even want to know the details -- BUT!! (no pun intended - ) I started taking psyllium capsules -- 3 in the morning, 3 in the evening -- no yucky metamucil taste, and I am as regular as rain!! whoot! I love them -- I take them with my Vitamins and I'm a REALLY happy woman
