Hi all,

Six months waiting and preparing: Tomorrow is the day! I am first on my surgeon's schedule, second in the operating room. I am nervous and hungry. I've got two hours till I drink the stuff that flushes you out for the surgery. No Water after midnight.

I'm afraid:

I won't wake up

They will find something else wrong with me while they are in there

I won't be able to eat or drink after the surgery

I'll be able to eat too much after the surgery

I will get fainting spells

My skin will sag

My hair will fall out so much I'll need a wig and it won't grow back

I will wake up in pain

I will vomit all the time

I hope:

I will recuperate fast

I will be able to eat the normal amount (1/4 cup at first then normal-small portions eventually

I will only need pain meds three or four days

I will not have adverse side effects

My hair will only thin a little and will grow back quickly

My skin won't look much worse than other 54-year olds

I am grateful for:

This list; especially all those who have posted their feeling soon after surgery so I feel like I know the possible ways I might feel

My husband and Mom who are both here to support me and will be there when I wake up

Having the patience to go through my insurance for the operation; if anything goes wrong, I'm covered

The opportunity to finally win the battle against my weight

The fact that I told everyone so I don't have to worry about what people who don't know will say

See all you post-ops on the losers bench soon!!

Lynda

I am sure everything will go great - I had my first nutrition appointment this morning at 10:00 so my 6 month clock has just begun :) Wishing you a successful surgery and swift healing!

Thanks for the kind words Chimera!

That six months really dragged for me, right up till last week. Now it seems so fast! I am so glad I went through my insurance though. It takes a load off knowing if something goes wrong, it will just be my co-pay.

Don't let those mental demons get to you! Try to think of nothing but positive things. I know sometimes that is easier said than done, but try to stay super busy, read a racey book, go for a brisk walk, pack, unpack, and pack again, get naked and lay in a pile with your hubby, call your best friend and make up gossip about yourselves...try anything to stay happy and positve.

That being said, my surgery is three weeks away. PLEASE, try to remember to send this post back to me when I have my 11th hour panic, OK?

I will include you when I chit chat with God tonight.

Be sure to let us all know how you're doing on the Losers' Bench--and save me a space. I hope to be there soon!

Thanks Valentina!

I will watch for your 11th hour message in three weeks :-)

Overall, I am happy with my decision and confident in my surgeon and hospital. It felt really good to get those nagging thoughts out of the dark corners and onto the screen. Plus, to count up my blessings-I am lucky to have so many!

Good Luck to you! I am just 5 weeks post op and love my sleeve. Did not have much pain after surgery, did not puke, can eat and drink fine and I'm down almost 50 pounds (including pre op diet). Love my Sleeve! I also was scared I would not wake up and actually told my surgeon I was not ready to die...not sure what he thought of that! You'll do fine and will be on the other side before you know it. Let us know how you are doing when you feel up to it.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
