has losing weight made you look older?

Recommended Posts

I read that some people end up looking older after losing so much weight. And have sagging skin. I am putting most of my savings into this surgery and probably won't have money to do a Tummy Tuck or something. I have a very round chubby ( fat) face :0 and hope i don't have that much sagging skin on my neck, or face or tummy. Can you tell me your experience? I hope to lose 100lbs or so. Thanks !!

Hey, good question and one that I thought of too...

SO far so good on the face; a lot of people have said I look younger (and prettier...hmmm, so I was ugly when fatter?? lol)

As far as the body goes, not that good to be honest... dimply tummy, but it is concealed so I can handle that; would love a TT one day! Same with the 'ladies' they could do with an uplift, but there are soooo many good bras these days that it isn't bad in clothes. Upper arms are a little saggy too, but I am working on those in my boxing classes and using free weights. The rest of me ain't too bad!

Hi-

UNfortunately, you won't know until you get there. Also, the true results won't really be set for at least a yeara fter you are finished losing weight (kind of like when you have a baby). I am 2 months out and have lost a good amount of weight for my frame. My face looks great! My stomach looks awful! My knees looking not so good. The weight has dropped so quickly that my skin hasn't caught up yet. I am going to wait at least 10 months before I worry about what the skin looks like. It will take that long for my skin to try and tone back up. I know that my stomach will never look perfect - I was huge when I was pregnant 6 years ago and there are too many stretch marks to count. I still have hope for my legs, though. I think it will just take time.

I'm doing well as far as the neck and face go. People usually comment that I look a few years younger. My hair is starting to gray (probably not connected to VSG anyway) but that doesnt bother me too much. If George Clooney can rock the gray temples, so can I!

Most people think I look younger. It's been said that I'm no older than 25. Ha! I'm 35!!!

Same as Shanny here, as a bigger girl I still looked younger but folks would guess about -5 to -7 years younger. Now folks are thinking I'm in my mid Twenties and I'm 37 (and a half... lol)

It's just luck of the draw really, no way of knowing how each individual will turn up until you get there.

Thank you everyone! I don't think it will bother me too much, if i do end up with saggy skin. At least i will be able to walk and play with my son without wanting to pass out! Thanks again. Congrats to all of you!!!

I'm 44 and have been yo yo'ing my entire life, so far my face is ok other than the usual crows feet at this age, neck is good so no complaints there. Everything else kinda sags all over lol. But eh, I'm married 13 1/2 years, he loved me at 280 he'll love me with skin so it doesn't bother me .... much. ;)

I have more noticeable wrinkles on my face, but I look younger. No one can see my wrinkles/crow's feet until I smile. Pre-op, the wrinkles were plumped out with a fat round face. I will be having botox and juvederm done in the future. I don't have the turkey neck issues either, but I diligently moisturized my face/neck excessively through my losing stage. As for my body, I was not a gym rat after I got to goal so I am flabby, and have wrinkly skin to some extent, the boobs are shot to hell, but for some reason, I don't let it bother me much.

I'll take the saggy/flabbiness over back fat rolls, and major/chronic joint pain any day of the week.

I can also tell you that I exercise 5 days a week, so I don't have a lot of sagging skin. My stomach still hangs over and my arms are still flabby, but I don't look like those wrinkly dogs either. Right now it's still all in check. I think as long as you exercise it you have a shot of not sagging.

Not yet... I do see some more wrinkles... on my lower arms! If i put them over my head and look up, my arms are all wrinkie....I have a little bit of turkey neck, but all in all, I look better than before, I still have 40 pounds to lose, so I will just have to wait and see....

People tell me I look a lot younger. I am 49 and most people think I am in my late 30s. Maybe they are blowing smoke up my butt. I had a lot of saggy skin on my neck after losing the fist 65 so quickly, it has pretty much snapped back. I was expecting to be a wrinkled saggy mess but I am pleasantly surprised. I think everyone is different. I have lost 110 lbs to date, no saggy belly either.

People tell me i look younger than my 42 years now, my neighbour even said the other day that i looked like i'm in my 20's (even though that was just her being kind) But I am lucky don't have much more wrinkles than I had before losing weight, and I haven't lost loads of weight like some of you out there, although I'm desperate to get to goal now!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
