Hey everyone! Thought I would go ahead and start my first topic. I know we are to never compare our weight loss to others, but I just want to know and feel like I am on track with the norm. Tommorrow wil be my two weeks since surgery and I have lost 12lbs. Now I am so excited about this!! I have never before lost this much weight this fast. I feel however, that I should have lost more in the start up, get out of the gate phase. I see some at around the same weight as myself losing 10-15lbs. in the first week. What do you all think and how do your stats match up? Also I notice that like many of you the weight on the scale tends to stay the same or vary up and down on a pound for 4-6 days and then BLAM! it just drops 4lbs over night. Very weird, yet very exciting. That is what happened to me this morning. Staying on the plus side although its only been three weeks with the pre-op I have even lost inches, so glad I did this.

BTW I love this site. I am on here almost everyday and really appreciate all the support offered.

I am 2 1/2 weeks post op and have lost 14 lbs from surgery date. Total of 27 from the date that I started the pre-op diet. :)

Welcome and good luck!

"Dont worry"... that's all I hear on here! And you are right, never compare yourself to others. Everyone is different and at 2.5 weeks your body is just barely starting to heal after having the majority of your stomach removed! I'm working on my 4th week and the scale hasnt moved in 2 wks! So, dont worry... As we move through the phases, our body will adjust to this new sleeve and will get better! (I was sleeved on 4/25). Once we get to Phase 5 (the solid food stage) then I would begin to worry about the weight loss. Right now we aren't even getting enough calories in to consider changing our diets yet. Continue on your doctor's plan and you will see the pounds begin to fall off!! Patience, my friend! :P

As you will hear, this is a highly individual process. 12 pounds sounds great!! Now, be sure to prepare yourself because you are on the cusp of your first stall. The 3-5 week stall makes a lot of people crazy. Your body drops this initial weight and then stops to take a breath :-) I lost around 10 punds in the first week and then a couple of pounds for the next 3 weeks. Now I average 2 pounds a week. I am slow, but I also started at a lower BMI because I had a lap band before.

Hang in there and focus on your food--

Lara

I lost 16 lbs in my first 2 weeks out of surgery then I hit a "stall" period where I didn't lost but 1 lb for a week. I was like whatttt!! Turns out the surgeon told me that's normal because the Water in your body is shifting and adjusting to your weight loss. I see a lot of people have experienced weight loss spurts. You will hit weeks that you lose and then may go a period not losing while your body adjusts, but bottom line you're going to lose the weight. Stick to your new eating plan and you'll do great. Good luck!

A healthy rate of weight loss is 1-2 Lbs per week - but keep in mind this is an AVERAGE. This does not mean a STEADY weight loss. I tend to more lose a bunch for 2 weeks straight then I'll bounce around for the next few weeks. Am I ok with this? Most of the time, but not always... :P

Seriously though, 12 Lbs for the first 2 weeks post op is good, I think. I lost about that and we are nearly the same stats beginning and how much we'd like to lose. At least in my opinion, I was good with it!!

Hang in there, time will pass and pounds will melt away. :)

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
