Need to buy good Scales....any recommendations?

Recommended Posts

I desperately need a new set of scales. What I have now is a Health-o-meter Digital. Maybe I should stay away from the digital and get the old school kind. I can weigh myself 3 different times within a few minutes and it will be around a 5lb difference. This will make me crazy lol!

I absolutely love my scales. I love it so much I've considered buying a back up. I've had it for about 18 months and as long as I step on it evenly I get a very consistent read. I researched on line before buying and this one was a consumer's digest best choice a couple of years ago. It's sold only at Bed Bath and Beyond and is called Thinner. If you go there and read the reviews (which I just did) they are not exactly stunning (only 3) which surprised me. I have the Chrome and Glass top one.

If you have Bed Bath and Beyond near you where you could return it if you are not happy, I'd really recommend it. One of the reviews says their worked great for 2.5 years before giving them trouble. Well, I think I paid about $30 for mine with a coupon so I guess that may be a difference between me and that reviewer. If I own a $30 item for 2.5 years of excellent use, it can die then and I won't complain.

I have that same scale and it gives me an accurate reading everything and it matches my doctors scale. I love it and it's cool looking.

Tanita is a very good brand, I have owned 2 - bought a second one because the first only weighed in .5 increments so I bought one that weighed in .2. I have had the first one for around 8 years and second one for about 6 years and both are still going and accurate. BTW, this is the brand that weight watchers uses.

Thank you everyone for your responses. My scale measured me 30lbs heavier then 5 mins later I weighed 10lbs lighter! LOL I even replaced the battery to see if that would help.

Health O Meter is the worst!! I've had several different types and they are notorious for misreadings! I agree you will weight one thing, next thing you step right back on and it says sometimes 10 Lbs different. That's just insane.

Since then I bought a Taylor scale. It hasn't let me down once and I measured it against my Dr.s scale - the balance beam type and it's always spot on or very close, which is fine. Due to paranoia from my HoM scale at first I would check it several times and it never lets up on the last reading. It will stay exactly the same. Sometimes I still double check it just to make sure it's not going on the fritz and it hasn't yet. I've had this scale for at least a year and a half now.

I think it was under 30 bucks and I bought it at Target.

I've heard excellent reviews from the Weight Watchers scale and Detecto scales as well.

Good luck!!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
