Pork rinds... Good or bad snack????

Recommended Posts

They are typically high in sodium, but I ate pooploads of them because of the lack of carbs, and I ate the baked ones to avoid the "fat" from fried ones.

I was not concerned about fat intake since I'm a firm believer we need some fat in our diets. I used them in all my recipes that called for breadcrumbs or other binders.

I never counted the Protein in them whole-heartedly, but they sure beat the heck out of carb-ridden chips/pretzels.

I eat them a lot too. I love that they are crispy like chips but without the carbs. They have lots of Protein, so I don't feel bad about eating them at all!

You can make them into a sweet snack as well by sprinkling some cinnamon and splenda mixed together over them like you would popcorn seasoning. Yum!

huh. I never thought of that. I wonder what they're like in meatloaf. I can't wait to try!

In the recipe section here, I actually posted a pork rind meatloaf recipe. It was yummy, also I made salisbury steak with ground beef or ground turkey with Pork rinds as the binder, those were delicious.

I used the barbque flavor for the meatloaf once, and it add some flavor to the meat, and I like the hot and spicy ones for just a snack with chunk cheese.

Okay I have never had Pork rinds in my life...what part of the pig are they exactly? Just curious...I've always steered clear because they just (to me!) sound gross. lol.

I think it's the skin--but I'm not 100% certain.

OOOhhhh, I love Pork rinds. My sister was actually munching on some earlier when I stopped by to see my neice. I can't wait to have some now that I know they aren't the worst for me. Still in mushie phase, blah. Great ideas btw with the meatloaf and dessert idea. You can add a little crunch to anything with some pork rinds, sweet.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
