I have been having some lower back pain all of a sudden. I don't remember bending in a bad way or anything like that. Someone told me that a doctor had told them that it was tied to weight loss. Has anyone heard this?

How long post op are you? I'm 1 week out and the only lower back pain I've had was because I've had to sleep exclusively on my back.

I've never heard it connected to weight loss but ironically I've been having noticeable back pain too. In my case it's clearly muscles spasms. Never had the issue before. Since I can tell it's just muscle, I was going to ride it out.

I got muscle relaxers.

Here's how my doc explained it: your back muscles have to pick up some slack because your abdominals have been cut. If your back muscles aren't strong, they can have muscle spasms.

I have an order for physical therapy to strengthen my back muscles as soon as I'm off my activity restrictions (two more weeks).

Yep, it can be associated tot weight loss, some folks may experience spasms, pains, etc. Our bodies have had to endure and has gotten use to carrying a larger load than what it is accustomed to. Now that weight is falling off, it also has to get accustomed to the weight change.

I know I had low back pain during first week because of sleeping only on my back for first couple days.

Ok I hesitate to ask this, but do you have to poop? That will cause mid to lower back pain and then people are amazed that it's suddenly gone, flushed away lol

Oh god, I had the worst lower back pain and sciatic nerve inflammation post-op -- lasted a good month or so, too. UGH. Had to get special permission to take NSAIDs starting just a week post-op, but they did really help. The good news is, once it went away, it was just gone -- no lingering or coming and going. Whew.

I'm about a month and a half out and I had horrible back pain. Turns out it was because my gall bladder had stones. It was sending radiating pain to my back. After weight loss surgery people can experience gall bladder issues. I think you are just experiencing it from the weight loss but if it turns into severe pain contact your surgeon to discuss it.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
