I'm putting my scales in the trunk of my car

Recommended Posts

I am losing. Slowing but I am losing. So I've decided that after my doctor appt. on Wednesday I'm putting my scales in the trunk of my car and going to see how long I can just forget about the daily weigh ins. The past 3.5 weeks (pre-diet, surgery, post diet) have not been horrible but have been difficult. I keep thinking "I can't wait until I'm at my new normal" over and over. I don't mean weight, but functioning and living life as a person on the way to a different and hopefully better life. Well, I think maybe one of the things I need to do is start being what I want that new normal will be....if that makes any sense. And all along I've said this needs to be about my health and not the number on the scale. If I am doing the health part right, then the rest will fall in place.

So the scales are going into the trunk of my car. As silly as that seems, if I leave them in the house I'll just go to where they are.

See how long this lasts. :P

Oh, and by the way, someone said they used MyFitnessPal and I started using it yesterday. I really like that site and I think it will help me to keep my eye on the important. Thanks for the tip.

I agree with putting the scales where they are hard to use. I don't have scales at home, but I work in a clinic where there are scales in every exam room. I have one specific scale that I use for my "official" weight and it is not always available. Not to say I don't get on it a couple of times a week, but I officially weigh every Monday morning and that is my guage of weight loss. That is when I update my ticker. It is about health, but I've been skinny and I've been fat, and skinny is better. I can't wait to get there again...not skinny, but much smaller than I was :) Kathe

I weigh myself multiple times a day! UGH! I need to "hide" my scale too! I am afraid to put it in the trunk because it will move all around and I don't wanna break it, LOL! Maybe I will put it up on a shelf in the garage. Ill send you a PM, and maybe we can help each other out to get thru this stupid daily weighing!!!

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
