I've made the leap!

Recommended Posts

I have been contemplating the lapband for about 2 years now. After tons of research and prayers I have decided to go for it. My daughter got banded in Nov. last year and has lost 40 lbs. I'm very inspired by this, but I'm sure my loss will be slower due to the age difference, and a life of yo-yoing. My ins. excludes barriatric surgery, so I am forking over the $$$$$. I am going to have Dr. Rumbaut in Monterrey, MX place my band. It seems from my research that he is very experienced and his liason here in the states, Ann Marie is so oo nice and helpful. Has anyone else gone through the Mexican connection, any advise or tips? My BMI is 37.5

Number one on my advise list is be sure and shave your legs before you go. You may not feel like bending for awhile. I had to learn this the hard way....lol

Good luck! Enjoy your adventure.

Dr. Rumbaut did my banding, and my husband and I are flying down to Mexico this weekend he is getting banded on Tuesday with Dr. Rumbaut. He is one of the top doctors, you will adore him he is great. The hotel he sets you up in is the Hampton Inn Galerias Obispado which is nice. Dr. Rumbaut is one of the teachers that the American doctors go to for training on the banding procedures. Good luck and congrats. Dr. Rumbaut does have a website with a list of all his training. When are you going to have your surgery?

 Neicy Welcome to Lapbandtalk

Congratulations on your decision to be banded. I researched for 2 months and decided the band was for me. 2 months later I was banded. My insurance wouldn't cover it either, and I'm still paying for it but its worth it. I've lost 55lbs so far.

Is this AnnMarie Tesei? If so yes she's very nice and I met her while I had my band placed in Mexico with Dr. Sanchez. So she's now with Rumbaut or did she recommend both doctors? I know she's an avocet for the AMI swedish band, her husband Eric, who also has an AMI band does fills in Las Vegas. I have an AMI also and am doing very well with it (possible kinked hose but other then that) I love my band. The reason I bring up the AMI band is follow up care and fills. Make sure you find a doctor near you who will fill any type of band or else demand an Inamed band.

There are many of us that went to Mexico to have our bands placed. Will you be bringing someone with you? Do pack lite.

Keep us posted

Thanks for the tips. I am scheduled on 5/28 for my surgery. I'm really ready to go. My only fear is that I won't lose! I've yo-yoed for so many years that when I diet, absolutely nothing happens.

Dr. Rumbaut assured me that I would indeed lose. I am of the understanding that I will be getting the Inamed band. Is Dr. Sanchez in Tijuana? I think Ann Marie works with a team of surgeons, not just Dr. Rumbaut, and I find her very knowlegable and forthcoming. It's great that you lost 55 lbs. Congrats!

Hi Neicy,

Welcome to the site! I'm having my surgery done here in the states but sometimes I wish I could just hope on a plane instead of dealing with all of the waiting and red tape that goes along with having the procedure done here. Good luck with everything and I hope you find all of the information and support you need here!

Darcy,

I know waiting is a hard thing to do but after your surgery you will have the peace of mind that your doctor is close at hand should you ever need him. That is worth a lot. Although going to Mexico for my band was an good alternative for me any care I get here close to home, regarding my band, will not be my with surgeon.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.
