Well today was first post op appointment with my doctor everything look good. I have lost 14 pounds since I start with the preop. I have lost a total of 31 pounds since I have started my journey in January. The doctor says everything this doing good. The only two problems I am having is my new stomach is rejecting the protien shakes. I having such problems. The advice given is too try muscle milk light which I was using before surgery to see if that works. I hope so as soon it hits my stomach I get go nauseous. The other minor complication is I seem to have popped stitched. They gave some cream for healing and said to see me in a month. One more thing I am full liquids till June 3. My underlying question is why diets are different from doctor to docotor. Oh well I know I need to protect my stomach and I do not want nothing too happen to that. Well I back to work on Monday. I am getting little waves of depression. I guess it is my hormones. I seem to cry at the simplest things. Good luck to everyone and will post soon.

Connie

Congrats on your post op weight loss! I'm sorry that you're having trouble with the shakes, it seems like a common problem. Have you gotten any of the samples to try different brands?

I had a terrible time getting down fluids and Protein after surgery and also became depressed. Everyone told me it would get better with time, and it did! And it will for you too :)

Congrats on your weight loss too :)

I hear you on the doctors all differing! Not only that, but most people who use my surgeon get to have cottage cheese, yogurt, cream Soup, etc. the fourth day but for some reason he is having me do THREE weeks of Clear Liquids plus Protein shakes. I cried when I got his email.

Like you I am just remembering that my sleeve will be the better for it. Sigh. Good luck to you!

I cannot tolerate Protein shakes either, I don't know why??? But There is Protein Water you can buy, its ok. I'm not hitting my numbers right now...just kind of existing, but I'm only a month out...just waiting for it to "get better"

It does get easier, or you get more used to the restrictions and your personal stomach tweaks...lol, time seems to drag, but I promise, you'll look back a few weeks from now and think it went fast!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
