Well I definitly feel that after 5 weeks It is not a stall. Just gonna lose slow and its all on me at this point. I can eat fairly normal...not much restriction. 6 oz goes in and I could probably eat more if I let myself. Im over it. I will not have that quick weight loss I enjoyed the first time around. I lost 2 more pounds by DIETING. UUUGGGHHHH...LOL. I didnt feel like I was dieting with lap band. I basically eat controlled portions that sometimes leave me still hungry. I eat protiens all day and very little carbs. Oh well....so much for the hope of dropping a quick 30 or 40 lbs with great restriction. Im not so lucky.

Its cool.....enjoy your journeys and your weight loss. If you have amazing restriction...feel lucky because going through all this to eat pretty normal SUCKS!!!!!!!!! Ill check in from time to time but reading about people eating 2 bites and being full just brings me down at this point. I have an amazing life and have come to grips with this after 5 weeks. Good luck everyone!! Keep on living!!!!!!!

What size bougie did your surgeon use?

I am not sleeved yet but this seems drastically different from most people's experience.

I don't have seem to have a problem with eating large quantities because I do get a sick feeling in my stomach if I over do it, but I'm just not losing. I'm almost at 1 month out and have only lost 6 pounds. As long as I keep losing, I'll be fine with that, but, like you, I was hoping to lose 20-30 pounds in the first month or 2 and that's just not going to happen. I'm also a band revision like you and had a lower starting weight, so maybe our metabolisms were screwed up from our time with the band.

Thats what Im thinking. I think my body was already used to dropping weight and then leveled off. My Lap Band doctor(dosnt just do weight lost surgeries...he's legit and well known beside WLS) who is an amazing doctor felt that my body was leveling off and it would take seriously hard work to get off more. I think he may have been right. When i went into this I felt like this would happen. I talked to my wife and friend and said if i come out of this and dont lose a tone but can eat controlled portions and not GAIN weight that I would be OK. Well...that seems to be the case. My hopes of the quick drop are gone and Im ok with that. I do not know my bougie size and at this point it dosnt matter. I need to make the right choices and do the best I can on my own. I dont get sick if I eat too much but I also havnt pushed it and am going to do my best to have self control. I know I cant eat 6oz in the morning but I know at night i could EASILY eat more than that. I just try not to.

I can soooo feel your pain. I'm sorry this has happened to you and so sorry to see you leave. but you know I can relate. Fortunately, however I had reached my doctors expectation of me but now he wants me to lose about 20 more lbs. . DO YOU THINK I CAN????? Oh NO! I'm so stuck at this weight and it won't budge. . . hasn't for 4 months! I'm sure if I gave it a good kick start it would work, but I've come to the conclusion that at 6 feet tall and an incredible large bone structure this is the weight for me. . . I've excepted that and now I am not going to kill myself with dieting. . . I did enough of that for the last 45 years of my life and am done with it. I'm ok with who I am now and am just grateful I can fit comfortably into a plane seat and get that stupid seat belt buckled! LOL. . . . Honey, you'll be ok. . . it's going to happen for you, slower maybe, but it'll happen. . . just keep doing what your doing, throw out that scale and live your life. . .like you say, you have an amazing life, I'm jealous cause I have just the opposite, but then I don't know anything better anyhow, so I guess mine is amazing too but in a different sense of the word. . . know that we are always here for you! Check in and let us know your successes. . . They will be there! Good Luck and may the path of life be good to you and to all you do!!! :D

awww i totally feel your frustration.

I too expected to lose 25-30 lbs in the first month and i only lost 16. My friends are like 16 lbs in a month is good...but i feel like i risked my life, and went through a lot to convince my mom I needed to do this. I haven't cheated...it's still the beginning. I want to give it a fair chance. But I don't want to feel like l did surgery only to lose the same amount of weight I couldve lost on my own...but still i keep trucking on.

Good Luck Hip! I am sure it'll all work out. Stay focused!

Thanks, You did amazing!! I was in the same mind set. I knew I would never be "Thin". My goal from the get go was to be 250 for the rest of my life and less would be a bonus. My heaviest weight was 369. I am now 246. My lowest weight was 233ish. Id like to get down to 230 because that felt great. If I go further Id be amazed because honestly....I love food....I love going out to eat....and I really dont have a vision of me at 150...160...170...or even 200 pounds...LOL If I became some health freak...ya never know but at 38...I think Im set in my ways. I kayak, surf, bike, still skateboard, and fish my butt off!!! I have a cute and amazing wife(I lucked out). I live life and Im not gonna be depressed about my weight anymore. If this tool keeps me under 250 forever and keeps me healthy....Im OK with that.

I saw that you said you had the opposite of a good life...I hope that changes for you.

Thank you! You've done amazing yourself! I started out at 350 lbs too. . . it's hard and always will be hard for us. . I compare it to an addict only ours is harder cause we NEED food to survive. . I'm so happy you have a great and loving wife that helps alot! I'll be ok with my life, I don't know anything other then what I've been handed. . but thanks a lot, that was very nice. I am active too, I love to do outdoor things, weeding (yes yes, I know! But I love it ,good stress reliever) planting, beach, camping and fishing! We're active and that is what is important. . we live but once, enjoy all you've been given and love the ones you love and in the end you'll get your blessings! Good luck!

Maybe we should start a new topic on this forum for people really struggling and maybe people who have regained some weight. The one thing I am happy about is that my 3 month pre-op program is not just teaching me how to eat and giving me behavior modification, but its great that it is bariatric surgery specific. So they take in account that we will have much smaller space to food in and really show us how to eat and maintain our loss. The thing to remember is that the sleeve is a tool. It is not the end all be all. We have to work with the tool for it to be effective. If we are addicted to food or binging it MUST be addressed for you to expect success. After two years you can stretch your sleeve and if your putting bad, high calorie food in and not exercising you should expect to gain weight just like we did before the sleeve. Not to be rude, but I have empathy but little sympathy for people who complain about what the sleeve is not doing but people arent doing what they are suppose to do for the sleeve to work.

Nice response...did you even read what I and the others wrote? Not looking for your sympathy. The whole post was about basically feeling like I never had surgery not cheating the sleeve. If I didnt puke blood and have so much pain I wouldnt even believe I was sleeved. Did you miss the high protien portion contolled part of my post?? Where does it say ANYWHERE that I was overeating? Gaining weight? or ANYTHING alluding to your response? Take your negativity to a different thread. And am I reading right? You have not been sleeved yet?

How long have you been sleeved? Some people are slower losers than others and I feel for you. Hopefully you will get to the goal you would like. You may have a larger sleeve in circumference and also length and that is why you can eat more.

Here is hoping your stall breaks and you start losing again.

This was not directed at you personally. It is directed to all of us including myself. The restriction will eventually stretch and while it is small we need to learn to eat and exercise properly. You are the one that said you felt like you were dieting ,and we all should ,but for me I choose to think of as lifestyle modification. I apologize if you took my post as directed to you and I was rude. However, I stand behind my words . Furthermore, I don't feel that anything I said was negative. I proposed a topic for those struggleing or gaining weight because it is often posted about. I just happen to mention it while reading your thread. Again nothing was directed personally at you and I include myself in this group.

Hi Hip, you know some of us just simply lose slower than others. I am by definition in comparison to most others here a slow loser. I only lose about 8 to 10 Lbs per month, and one time I only lost 5 Lbs for the whole month. I know I've said this already but I'm also an ex-bandster. Me and my band did not get along at all and it did not help me lose weight, keep it off - not even keep me from eating too much. That's why I revised.

Anyway, I would really hate that you just bailed on us! You WILL reach your goals, I do not doubt that in the least. I also believe you will go further than you dreamed too. I just think you're not giving yourself enough credit and not enough time for it to happen. You're not that far out of surgery - and as I see your ticker has moved since the last time I saw it, I'd say you're successful right now!

I really hope you'll stick around, even if only sporadically. I really like watching other ex bandsters especially, as they have a special place in my heart. Just be patient with the process and Celebrate your victories - don't downplay them. They are all worthy of happiness.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
