Does your surgeon have any rules you need to follow during this window?

My personal advice might not fly with everyone. But if it's up to you how to manage the next days, I would try to blend enjoying some favorite meals with trying to eat as healthy as you can. I set a meal once a week for a favorite, but the rest of the time I tried to change my eating habits. It's not so much about the dramatic change of your diet but that you want your body to be strong and healthy for the surgery.

Truthfully, I don't know that all of the rules I had to follow made a lick of difference. Writing down everything I ate for ages, timing meal..... Cutting out diet pop was an example. I was told to do it 90 days before surgery to show I could give it up. I it out 10 days before when I started my liquid diet. It made no difference. I gave it up easier that day because I actually needed to. I may be unique in this, but nothing I did before surgery mattered. After surgery it's completely different.

If you have weaknesses work on them. Things like eating slowly and paying attention to how much you are really eating. But for me, all of those things were just superficial until I left my stomach to medical waste. Everything changed with that day and I really don't think you can prepare until you are there.

Oh, and P.S. - good luck if you make this choice. I'm almost 1 month out from surgery and so far I'm at peace with my decision but I have to admit that if I am eating 2 ounces of food per meal for the rest of my life, I won't be. I'm not sure what the conversion is but that's one thing you might want to do....actually measure out what your doctor says you will be able to eat after the surgery so you can see how much it is.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
