HELP,

I am 2 weeks post op, started on full liquids 4 days ago, creamed chicken Soup, yogurt, runny cream of wheat, bites of mashed potato/gravy, popsicles, etc.

NO SPICES, this coming from a Cajun born for everything spicy, am on zantac twice daily, started Prilosec yest, taking tums about 5 times daily, and gas x.

Have this unbelievable burning/pressure in my esophagus, comes and goes and doesn't correlate with eating.

any advice would be cherished.

Have you called your doctor or surgeon? I would do that right away.

I did yesterday and they said it would go away with time. It is better today only because as soon as I quit eating I pop a couple of Tums.

Okay. The Prilosec might take a day or two to kick in but should help--1 tab in the am, with Water, 30-60- minutes before any food or shakes. If one tab doesn't work, take another before bed but let your dr.s office know you are taking two. If two don't help, ask for something else--Nexium or Prevacid. Sometimes you have to try a variety of PPIs before you find one that helps. The PPI should stop a lot of the acid so you won't need the Tums or Zantac as often.

Hang in there. I had terrible reflux for about 6-8 months afterwards. I'm happy to say that has passed.

Big lesson learned - cut out Snacks at least an hour before you hit the sack.

You want your digestion to have a good start before you lay down.

The thing is that your stomach produces the same amount of acid - only now your pouch is half the size.

I eventually settled on a daily dose of emeprazole (sp?). But everybody reacts differently.

How long can I be on Prilosec? I just finished a 14 day pack, can I keep taking this without any problems?

Sorry to hijack your post, was just thinking the same thing.

My surgeon recommends a PPI for the first three to six months. I stopped at the three month mark but had reflux issues within a few days so I am back on it. I am hoping that as my sleeve matures I'll be able to stop it eventually.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
