Anxiety from being sick

Recommended Posts

Had to get up early and take my neighbor to a dentist appt. Just dropped her off. I considered stopping at the grocery. Went to speak with my dietitian yesterday and she gave me a bunch of suggestions and said I wasn't eating enough. Thankfully I came on home. About a 1/2 an hour later it was like a bomb went off. I started feeling sick and with about 3 minutes of warning I was spewing upper and lower for distance and -- unfortunately -- not accuracy. What a mess.

I really hadn't had much to eat so I don't think it was anything food wise. Now that it's over my stomach is grumbling but nothing out of the ordinary so I don't think it's a bug. It was 30 minutes of mania, now over and done. Maybe.

Quite frankly, this has sort of pulled the rug out from under me. This sort of thing was why I didn't have gastric bypass. My friends who have gone that route have these little surprises every now and then. And I'm leery about the rest of the day. Already cancelled for an evening event and just plan to chill out here now. But wow. Was not expecting this sort of "gotcha" without reason.

Anyone else experienced this? Since day 2 was over, I've had very little in terms of nausea aside from a little flush of it every now and then. Yesterday was 2 weeks for me.

Are you on Vitamins yet? I know mine make me vomit just about every time I take them no matter what I have to eat prior to taking them, and I am almost two months out!

If not, it's still just your new little tummy being irritated I'm sure. My surgeon recommended anti-nausea pills for the first month while the new stomach gets used to itself and all the things you try and put in it while it's still so irritated. Hope it passes quickly for you!mellow.gif

Just to be on the save and positive side, give you MD a call. It will put you in the know and more at ease. That's what his support staff as well as himself are are for. Patient service!!!!! They want your surgery to be as successful as you do.

Give 'em a call! You'll feel better for just doing so. I promise.:phone:

Yep. And they don't agree with me either. I had taken it right after I got home then had a cup of warm tea because it usually settles my stomach as it's telling it it didn't like it. I've been looking around for a different brand but not much luck in finding chewables.< /p>

I have some of the pills left over from when I came home from the hospital. I think I'll listen to Valentina and give them a call then maybe take one of those pills. I haven't taken one yet because I wasn't sure it would stay down.

Thanks.

I know in the beginning we think the sleeve is causing all of our problems, but maybe you have a little stomach flu? To be going like that at both ends with such ferocity sounds like an illness rather than something with your sleeve.

But, call the doc anyway - if the vomitting continues without obvious provocation, it could point to complications. Just keep on top of it and try to stay hydrated.

Take care--

LARA:

I try to keep "normal" illness in mind and to be honest, I hoped it was sleeve not flu. Frankly, a sleeve round of ick seems to pass faster and since I was settled back down and holding Water and light foods by noon, I guess it was just a sleeve boo boo. But I'll tell you this. While I didn't eat anything "bad", this sure felt like dumping. Yes, I know we don't do that but it met every standard except possible massive sweating but I'm in that freezing mode. So I don't think it was anything serious. I did call my program and they said that if it doesn't last more than that few hours, it's probably not anything serious but your stomach fighting back.

Bad day. But I am sure glad it timed out the way it did and I was at home for the worst.

Thanks all for reading and offering comfort and clear minded thoughts.

***Oh, you know something funny....A friend who had gastric bypass suggested I go to a dollar store and buy several cheap large bowls for just such an occasion. That's a new thing to add to the household list for surgery prep because I was very happy with her that I followed through. Made it much easier.***

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
