Did you have to have at least a 50 BMI for VSG?

Recommended Posts

My insurance company says I have to have at least a BMI of 50 to be considered for VSG. Was it the same requirement for you?

Nope -> 40 and no co-mo's!!

I guess each ins. co. can set their levels at their own choosing. That being said, how close to a 50 BMI are you??? You could ask your Bariatric MD to do a "Peer to Peer" consultation with the ins. co.. That usually is "worth its weight in gold".

Keep us posted.

Each insurance is different. I was self pay with a lap-band to be removed. BMI was 31. I think my insurance was wanting BMI of 40 or under 40 with co-morbidities. Self pay is an entirely different ball game.

I heard some insurance companies do require that for VSG. IDK why. But, my insurance company allowed any WLS (band, RNY or VSG) if you met their requirements.

For my insurance, you needed at least a BMI of 40, and if it were less, you needed co-morbidities.

      Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

        Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

        Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
