Does anyone else have problems eating chicken salad? I've tried it two different times, and both times it just hasn't agreed with me. It's a bummer because I really enjoy it. Even after a couple of bites, I start to feel ill. I have no problems with chicken itself, I eat that quite often with no problems. Maybe it's the mix of spices and the mayo? Blech! blink.gif

I'll let you know next week...my doctor lets me progress to soft foods then and chicken salad is one of my favorites too! I've been looking forward to it, so my fingers are crossed...

I just had chicken salad for lunch :D Early out though, chicken could be difficult, especially white meat. It's just so dry and heavy, and still I can't eat as much of it as I can dark meat or even burger or steak. Have you tried chicken any other way yet (I didn't seen how far out you are)? Getting it really really shredded, almost pureed, might help, or try dark meat and see if it's any better.

Hey there, I actually didn't start eating actual salads until about 3 months out. It takes awhile for our tummies to get used to certain foods, and everyone is different on how it responds. Give it another month and give it ago, see how it works then.

Good luck!

I just had an idea about your chicken... I either love or hate chicken based on whether it is dry or not (I am pre-sleeve) but the trick to juicy chicken is to let it rest! If you chop up the chicken before you cook it it will most likely be dry, but it you cook it whole (say on a George Forman grill) remove it from heat once you think it is done (you can check it later, do NOT cut into it!), place it on a plate and leave it for 10 minutes, then cut into it and enjoy :) I have never had a problem with it being under-cooked as it carry-over cooks. By letting it sit the chicken re-absorbs the juice so you don't lose any when you cut into it! We eat chicken a lot and this never fails us!

Good luck!

Never been a fan of chicken salad. Ihave found mayo tastes weird to me after surgery. Also, sometimes a particular food doesn;t agree with me, I'll wait a week or so and try it again and it will be just fine. The first egg tried was a bad experience, but since then I can eat eggs no problem.

I lived on cottage cheese as well as bits of chicken mixed with ricotta cheese (heated).

Mayo just smells weird to me now.

Echoing what Diva said. Think you might be a little early out for chicken salad. When you do try again, try the shredded type of chicken (you get in a can at Costco) with a little mayo and garlic salt. Good luck!

I had this issue with tuna salad early out, now there are no issues. So just give it time.

Everyone differs in this--I had such a bad experience at 5-6 weeks out with tuna that I did not even try it again till after 6 months and had no issues. I am sure it would have been ok sooner, but just take it slow and don't get too discouraged. I went through phases of just not even wanting to mess with food anymore because it was such a bother, but it does pass and life feels relatively normal again soon :)

iegal and Diva

OP is 6 weeks out, do y'all think that is too early for chicken salad? Or did you think she was talking about an actual lettuce-type salad with chicken on it? I thought 6 weeks was plenty of time for mushy/soft foods like chicken/tuna/ham salad.

I am scared to try a lettuce salad. Just heard too many horror storiesohmy.gif

thanks for all the different responses! i am 6 weeks out, and cleared for regular food now, and the chicken was very mushy and shredded, which is why i decided to go for it. it also could have just been bad chicken salad! tongue.gif...it was from the cafe at work.

Ohhh didn't think of *that* kind of chicken salad. Either way - it's probably best to just wait it out to try it again. It could be the Mayonnaise, I was sensitive to a lot of fatty ingredients early out. It does make sense too. Our sleeves make the rules now!! ;)

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
