Pre-op Diet Cost

I am wondering if any insurances cover the pre-op diet cost? Also how much did your pre-op diet cost you out of pocket?

So far, I have spent $60 in Protein and $20 for a liquid Vitamin drink. I go for my diet instructions tomorrow morning so imagine there will be some more things to get. I have been stocking up the past 2 weeks as much as I can. One dr, not my surgeon, said it would run me about $150 a month. costco carries alot of supplements for protein, etc. I would say to shop around--some like to order online for their supplements, but I find Costco to be reasonable and their protein is of good quality. Insurance usually wont cover the supplements. However, I am going to ask my dr if he will write me a prescription for it so that I can write it off taxes for this year. It would qualify as out of pocket medical expense if doctor prescribes it.

My surgeon requires us to by a pre/post diet kit from him that runs $325. This is stated upfront so that it doesn't come as a shock later. It is supposed to cover a 2 week pre and 2 week post diet.

My Doctor doesn't require or supply any kits - but an outline of what you should or can drink... I think the cost is really on if you search for the deals
