Gone for Good Club - July 2006

But why not count ALL of the weight that you have lost? They are all pounds that are gone for good. I don't think what you do is wrong, but I am curious as to the reason.

The reason I count from my surgery weight is because, at my most recent highest weight of 283, I didn't even know I was having surgery.

My all-time high was actually 285 and I always said that I would never weigh that much again. When I saw 283 on the scale, I went on a low-carb, high-protein diet and lost 9 pounds. I stayed at that weight for several months before my husband and I even discussed surgery.

Jan.Barnett - One other thing. If your high is 318, and you are currently 218 then you have lost 100, not 93. Are the weights correct, and you have been counting down from your surgery date? We count from the highest because every pound is important. :) Let me know so that I can make sure your numbers are correct on the board. Thank you so much!

yes the the numbers are right, I have always counted from my surgery date, but you are right it was me who lost those other 8 lbs so they should count!! Thanks for pointing that out.:clap2:

Hey Funny - I saw that you had a fill at the time of surgery? Is that something a lot of doctors do? was just curious...

I count my 5lbs prior to surgery b/c when I realized I wanted to have the WLS is when I began to try to lose on my own. 2 weeks into it prior to surgery and I lost 8lbs in doing so, however I went on vacation 5 days before surgery and when I returned home, I had gained 3 of it back. The 5lbs I lost of the 240lbs was indeed a direct effort on my behalf to lose. I count it in. It should never be dismissed.

Therefore at pre-ops, 235lbs was my "weigh in" number.

Amy, I'm glad you are counting your 60+lbs lost prior to surgery. You are doing and will be doing great!

I lost 4lbs today from my 6.5 - 7 (definately 6.5 but I think maybe more since I added an extra route home) and I'm going to count it in.

175lbs today, whoo hooo

I have a Inamed Vanguard 10cc band. It is larger than the other inamed band, and needs a slight fill to hold it in place rather than just having the stiches hold it there. But it is not supposed to give me any restriction. Even though i can only eat MAX 1/2 cup of food right now.

I count those pounds because I lost them, with or without the band or the plans for the band. they are gone, and gone for good because I am never going to see them again. But I do understand wanting to count just from surgery. That is when you made the big step towards the new life. I think we each have our own way of doing this.

Good for you on the weight loss telly. you are amazing!! pm me your plans for friday and I will let you know where I could fit in, and where we should meet.

Find a dress shop that has something to offer that wiil make you feel as wonderful as you look. You have done great and will get to your goal, it does take time, I'd rather be smaller than larger when I was last seen and take alot of pics because once you get to your goal you can look back and see how delicious being at goal really tastes. Yum Yum !!!!!!!! Dont let anything or anyone deter you from accepting your cudos for a job well done.My arms are flabby and I'm at my goal (for the moment I want to lose 10 more). Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
