Hi all I'm about to be sleeved in 2 days time and I also have polycystic ovary syndrome. I have heard that after the sleeve pcso greatly improves and was wondering if this has been the case for anyone?

My main reason for being sleeved is to help me become a mummy. I tried for nearly 3 years to get pregnant and in January of this year my dream was finally realised but I miscarried and the doc thinks this has all been due to my pcos. I am hoping that losing the pounds with help with my fatility.

So if anyone has any info I would really live to hear your story!

I have pcos but I have yet to get sleeved. My surgeon did tell me that its like a magical remission tool for women with PCOS. He advised me to get on birth control within 3 months post op as he has had several women with PCOS get preggers within 3-6 months post op. Check the postings from earlier this month. There was another forum member who was maybe 3 months post op and 6 weeks pregnate. I am not sure if I wnat another child yet, but i am happy that it will most likely be my option. Sending you positive mummy energy:)

I just had the sleeve done on 5/4/11 and have PCOS. I actually just developed PCOS - had no problem getting pregnant and have two boys, however the last two years my cycle has been off or not gotten it for months. That was one of the reasons I had the sleeve along with being a pre-diebetic and having sleep apena. I am adjusting and so far so good - so happy I got it and being 1 week post op - feeling so good about myself - already getting compliments :)

Good Luck:)

I, too, have PCOS, but have yet to be sleeved... since PCOS is usually caused by weight, I am not surprised that WLS will improve or cure it altogether... I wish you luck! I've been through the ringer in the mommy department, but am so grateful and blessed with two children... there is a bright spot!

I have POCS and I have been sleeved for about 8 months now. I had some issues with really heavy bleeding this time last year, I had to have a DC done in June. My cycle came on once after that and then it didn't come on again until about 2 months after being sleeved. I've since come on every month on the same day. My skin has cleared up and I don't have the pain that I had before. I'm actually going to the gyn on friday for a f/u.

I also am a PCOS-er! I have the insulin resistance, irregular periods, whacky Hair growth, weight issues, etc. I am being sleeved July 6th and am hoping these things clear up along with my severe sleep apnea. I have heard wonderful things about the surgery helping with PCOS and although I am not looking to become pregnant it must be very exciting to know it can help with fertility! :D

Congrats on your sleeve! I have PCOS. I've had this annoying syndrome since I was 13. I'm so happy that this surgery and other WLS helps but the annoying side effects into remission.

Yup, there ARE skinny "cysters" out there but for those of us big girls PCOS usually goes into kinda of a remission once we lose a significant amount of weight. Not speaking from personal experience (pre-op here) just observation and what my doc has told me.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
