Fel 0 Posted May 10, 2011 Ok so the doc has be on an exercise and diet while I have to wait out the 6 months before my insurance will cover my surgery. That's fine, I've been rollercoaster dieting and rollercoaster exercising (some weeks better than others). I've lost about 18 pounds in 3 months because of this change, and I've very happy, but is it really true that the more "physically fit" you are, the better the recovery? On a good week, I will walk/jog 3-4 miles each day in about 4 days a week. This week I am trying to get motivated to get out there again. I just find it hard to find the time, I am worried if I'm having a hard time now, how will I have the time later after my surgery. Then I start to think, will I even have the energy to workout after I've recovered from surgery? Will I be weak because of the low carb/ low caloric intake? LilMissDiva Irene 3,282 Posted May 10, 2011 Absolutely yes, it is a good idea to start working out again. The healthier you are going into surgery, the healthier you will be coming out. It sounds like you are already doing quite well with them when you do them. That sounds pretty much like what I do. Yes you will *eventually* get back to having enough energy to sustain workouts again. It took me awhile though. The first few months were really tough where energy was concerned. The super low calories, not enough fluids and Protein really took a toll on my stamina. However in time it got better and of course my energy did return. Patience is really key when it comes to the first few months. HTH!
Fel 0 Posted May 10, 2011 Thank you for your motivation! I really needed to hear that!
wishes 125 Posted May 10, 2011 Ditto, sometimes getting the same info over and over doesn't click until you hear from the people you need to hear it from. I am trying to get more active before surgery, but sometimes, it is really hard. But we can do it!
rsr53 1 Posted May 10, 2011 My PREOP consult with Dr is Thursday. Starting the journey then, and surgery either May 27th or 31st. I have been unlearning my yating habits and am completely off sodas!!! Yay!!! I work outside in my yard and do some housework in here. I need to do more, tho. Getting a friend to walk with me at the mall, which will help alot.
Browneyedsouljah 5 Posted May 11, 2011 My pre op program requires a dieting and exercise piece to it. I am glad it does since you heal better the better shape you are in. I am normally pretty active anyway and I think being in the habit of working out will only help post surgery.
