My Gastric Sleeve Journey What A Nightmare

Recommended Posts

to the person concerned with VSG, i havent had any complications whatsoever (surgery 12 days ago), i didnt even have any pain until i returned home and it was only as if id done crunches at the gym, just muscle soreness. i did however do alot of research on my doctor, he works at one of the top 100 clinics in america and has 20 yrs experience and 0% mortality rate, they even told me they havent had ANYONE come back with problems from VSG only minor complications with gastric and lap band.

which makes me wonder which doctor you saw that you had so much trouble gabriella and im very sorry to hear all of that, sounds as if he

was inexperienced. i really hope everything gets better for you very soon.

wow! sounds like your doctor is awesome! Who is he and from where? I am getting mine in august and its still new to the hospital, so, im a little nervous. They do tons of the other 2 surgeries, not, not as many sleeves! But, this is the one I want!

Just wondering if you had this done in the U.S. or Mexico?

I don't want to sound mean or anything, but this first post was posted back May, 2011, she hasn't responded since at all. Makes me wonder if it was one of those posts to scare everyone . . . either way, if it's legit, then my apologizes and hope all has gone well and she's ok. . .

I had the same question, Mexico or US? I've had my sleeve for almost 2 years and have had absolutely no problems, great weight loss and all. . .

Gabi74, I, too am very interested to know how you are doing now. Are you still coming to these boards? Please let us know. Your story is a horrific example, not of your pick of surgery type, but your unfortunate choice of the doctor and the facility. You were butchered - no doubt about it. I hope that you are considering legal action against them for the suffering you have experienced.

'I immediatly started vomiting blood and to my surprise had to be taken back into surgery as I had a liter of blood in my abdomen. I was given 2 pints of blood and sent home 3 days later with a clean bill of health. I went home and for the five days I was home I was sick each day running a fever and I spoke with the doctor daily who told me this was normal and just prescribed me pain medicine as I was in horrible pain. On the fifth day I could not get out of bed and my husband had to call 911. I was admitted to the local hospital and diagnosed with a septic infection through my body.'

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
