Ok...so I've seen on occasion the mentioning of the "Grehlin Hormone Monster" taking awhile to get out of your system. Exactly how long does it take? I am 8 weeks out and it is still with me!!

How many sleever's past a YEAR post-op still feel hungry?

Dunno, I'm five weeks out and I still get hungry. As in I wake up and eat and then three hours later I definitely want some more food; my belly has that crampy, graspy feeling that means feed me. Every three hours like clockwork, every day.

Crosswind...are you on a PPI? I take one Pepcid in the morning and one before going to bed. It really helps with all the rumbling. The acid in your tummy can mimic hunger feelings, I've been told. So maybe we are are confusing the two at times. I also fifight head hunger at times. But, I know I also experience true hunger pains.

Just want some sleeve-vet to tell me if and when it goes away.

People say it's "acid" in my stomach, not hunger. That it's not possible to be hungry but I am. Here's the thing - After day 3 or 4 of my pre-diet it was a breeze for me. The first few days were an adjustment, but after that I had no issues. I was able to take my 580 calories of liquid each day and was just fine with no to very little hunger. But now? I'm hungry about every two hours. I have 2 more weeks on liquid. I definitely feel "full" after I eat. About 3 or 4 ounces of liquid tops me off. But that full leaves and I am left hungry.

I am going to ask my doctor about upping the antacids but I know from our informational group meetings prior to surgery that they do not want to build dependence on antacids since there are other long term consequences and he only prescribes 1 per day for the first 30 days. After that you have to have a medical reason for them.

I'm okay with the idea of still feeling hunger as long as it's logical. And I guess I think that after I get back on real food in tiny portions, feeling hunger at 3 hour windows is logical. So I'll just see how it plays out. So far it's nothing I can't cope with and feel like I can still win. But I do feel hunger. And oddly, they told me in the hospital that it was a good thing, a sign of healing. And not to expect it to go away completely for a while. But that was the nurses, not anyone from the actual bariatric program although they were the nurses on the bariatric wing.

My dr. says that you SHOULD feel hungry at about 4 hours and should eat every 4-6 hours.

Also, I do not know how far out you all are and am being sleeved tomorrow, but have heard others here say that when you are able to eat more, you feel more restriction and are not as hungry. If you are still doing liquids or mushies, you may be hungry because you aren't able to eat dense Protein yet.

Just an idea. Good luck!

I take two prilosecs, one in the morning and one at night per my surgeon who said this was the reason for my morning sickness. It really helped.

I've been reading that ghrelin is minimized by losing the stomach but that we make it other places in our bodies also. It would be nice ( read awesome) if the hunger went away, but truly when I eat in response to it I still eat so little I'm at about 5-600 calories total. I should say I am no *more* hungry than I was before surgery. I just eat a whole hella lot less.

good luck tomorrow! My doctor's nurse said 3-5 little meals/day or 3 and two Snacks is about right. I'm 4 weeks out and I'd agree with that.

I am glad that I get hungry about every 4 hours because I am only able to eat about 2 sometimes 3 ounces depending on what it is at a time and the little bits of food spread out is keeping my metabolism going good. I am losing weight really well like this! I eat about 4 to 6 times a day since I get hungry every 3 hours or so. I am definitely getting "hunger" and emptiness/hollow feeling LOL. I know the difference between that and the acid, which I toned down a whole lot with omeprazole early on.

There's never any guarantee that you'll lose hunger 100% after surgery. The people who never feel any sensation of hunger seem to be those who stay on a PPI indefinitely... most of us still have some degree of it post-op. I will say though that for me, the worst of it was about 8 weeks out, and that lasted for about a month. Now, the hunger signal (the actual gnawing feeling in the belly) is probably less than 25% of what it initially was, and I get it rarely. Hunger to me usually is just a feeling of being "empty" and needing something to keep running on.

Head hunger now, there's a whole 'nuther monster!

I don;t feel hunger as much as I feel "empty". I am eating so little at each sitting, I will start to get a headache and really thirsty after 3 hours or so. I actually eat every 3 hours just to get my daily intake of calories. If your body needs food, it is not bad for your body to let you know about it. Would you say it is the same hunger that you had before? Does it feel like a craving?

Acid will definitely give you the tummy rumbles that feels like hunger. Since I switched to Zegerid I have completely lost all acid problems. No more rumbling and no more evening acid.

I took the PPI for a year and then weaned myself off. It is possible and I took Calcium citrate since the op too as I am post menopausal and at risk of low Calcium.< /p>

I haven't had any hunger at all since the surgery. I do get that kind of "empty" feeling when it has been 4 hours or more since I ate but it isn't all that obvious and if I am busy I don't notice it. Before my surgery I used to hear skinny people say that they "forgot" to eat and I wanted to just slap them. How the hell could you forget to eat?? I had that ravenous, I will kill someone if I don't get something to eat right now, kind of hunger before the surgery and I would no more "forget" to eat than I would forget to leave the house with clothes on!

But now...I can forget to eat. It is really strange but I guess I am grateful for it. It makes it a lot easier to be happy with the little bits of food I eat now. I don't know if it will last but it is what I have for now.

One thought...have you tried drinking some when you feel hungry? I had a feeling I thought was hunger, but I realized I hadn't been drinking much that day. I don't know if I needed to watr down some stomach acid or was just plain thirsty...but a few sips of Water helped.

I'm 6 mo out and I still have days were I have to remind myself to eat, other days watch out. I just learned the difference between actual hunger and indigestion. All those years thinking I'm hungry, but no a little purple pill would have have stopped it. Head hunger is another concept I'm working on and that ones tougher. I guess what I'm babbling about is I am having to learn what hunger is for me. I hope that helps some. I'm still confused about it all, but it's fun learning it.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

      2. BlondePatriotInCDA

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
