Soy, peanut butter ... 4 days post-op?

Recommended Posts

Is it ok to use soy milk this early out from surgery? I made a Peanut Butter shake tonight (from my new hero, Eggface) and used 1/2 Water and 1/2 Silk vanilla Soy...also called foe a Tbs of peanut butter. I took a few sips and nearly cried because of how good it was then thought maybe I should check here for more solid advise.

Oh my, those few sips were the worst idea ever! I now have cold chills, terrible cramps, nose started running, and am freaking out. Is this what dumping syndrome is ?

Soy milk would be okay...many people who are lactose intolerant uses soy. As for the Peanut Butter, we were advised to avoid for 4 weeks. And then it should be lowfat and creamy. Hope you will feel better soon.

sounds like dumping syndrome or you may be lactose intolerant now...call your surgeon. Hope you are feeling better. To get the Protein in, try PURE protein ready made in the can (found at Trader Joes, Target or The Vitamin shoppe-add 1 scoop of any flavorless Protein Powder to it (I use Designer Whey) This will double your protein intake in one 6 oz shake equalling a total of 36 grams of protein for one 6 oz. shake and the pure protein in a can is the absolute best I have had..alittle pricey but well worth it.

Check for sugar and fat in the soy milk... or perhaps the fat in the BP was a little rich this early out... I use peanut flour mostly now... much lower in fat and higher in protein... yum.

I was sleeved on May 3rd, and was told nothing but Clear Liquids only for 10 days after surgery. Followed by full liquids for another 4 days before allowing strained Soups and such. Its hard, but I've lost 22 lb since the surgery :-D

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
