What do you do to brighten your day?

Recommended Posts

This isn't specifically weight loss related... but on days that are just "off", you know those days where everything goes wrong and you are just in a funk all day? What do you do to get over it/cheer yourself up? Or more specifically, what do you do that is NOT food related?? I know that I am not normally an emotional eater... on bad days I don't gorge myself and on good days I don't normally Celebrate with food... but I was thinking about how much revolves around food in our society and some alternate coping mechs or rewards would be great to start thinking about!

Some of my ideas:

- listening to music

-coloring with my 5 year old sister

-walk with my dog

What do you do?

If I'm having a really bad day I go to bed early and take naps. sleeping the day away is great. If I'm mad I get on my elliptical and pound out my frustrations. Good luck to u.

I find exercise does actually help me out of a funk. What's tough is getting myself there when I'm already in a funk. What helps me with that is to have an exercise buddy. Then you have to meet them whether you feel like it or not. Also, I find socializing tends to lift me up. So, I try to plan activities ahead of time in order to have something to look forward to. Hope that helps!

PEDICURE! It's hard to be in a funk when you have gorgeous toes. :) I also like to work out especially with loud music. We have a punching bag in our garage and it is a GREAT friend on those funky days. I am also a reader and find that getting lost in a great book so I can forget my funk is a great plan. Great post idea!

LOL @ the no-funk with gorgeous toes! I love listening to music and reading is a definite go-to for me as well! I was thinking of reposting this in the pre-op area because I don't think many people see it. I know everyone has their own ways and ideas and it would be great to hear from all of them!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
