lack of emotional support

I agree with the majority - you were too sensitive. And in regard to folks on special diets eating beforehand if they are unsure of what is being served---any hostess who gets offended is also hypersensitive. For many people, eating the wrong food can be life threatening--not simply a matter of tastes. And like Stitchy mentioned, many people who THINK they know about what is allowed on a guests special diet don't have a clue. They mean well but don't understand. Just enjoy the company and don't focus so much on the food. That's what got us in this shape to start with!

Jack: I couldn't have said it better myself, both of your responses are right on....its amazing, how even after the fact, we still find a way to blame others for the cause and life of our problems.

I have a son with special needs and diabetes. I always make sure I bring something for him to eat and or drink just in case there is nothing being served he can eat. I do not let him have sf sodas (except clear or the lemonaide- most restaurants only carry diet coke/pepsi as well as most of the parties we attend for his little chums (or no diet stuff all together)and he occasionaly wants something other than Water.

I think nothing of it and really hope I have never offended any host.

We went to a birthday party for my brother in law and his son yeasterday. Everyone had this spectacular spaghetti, and yummy ice cream and cake for dessert.

I had with me a cube for chicken broth and a pudding cup in the car. I knew we were going to be eating. And I knew that they probably had no clue as to what I could have and couldn't have. And I didn't want to be unprepared. It is MY responsibility to take care of my dietary needs, and I should not rely on, or look to anyone else for this. Even if I am invited to their home. Turns out my sister in law had made chicken Soup (from scatch) and removed all of the chunks and veggies. She also purchased a small cup of sugar free vanilla ice cream for me for when we came to dessert time. She actually researched what I could eat and made sure that she was prepared. I was floored. I would never expect anyone to do this, and she went out of her way. It was wonderful. But if she hadn't, I would not think less of her in any way at all. You can't expect people to do magical things for you. You must create the magic yourself. You should have requested more Jello, if you were really still that hungry.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
