Ah, dammit, now I have to go ahead and drop the 30 bucks on Mederma because your scars look AWESOME! Okay, so what's your regimen? How many times a day, etc? I'm seriously impressed. :)

Hi Amanda! Well, I do it 3 times a day. The pic comes out HUGE when you click it. The one on my right side is almost faded. The bigger two on the left are definately smaller and lighter in color than they were. The scar dimple above my belly button was actually from when I had a belly button piercing..HAHAHA...ya, my fat girl body thought I could pull that one off...FAIL! I always kept it hidden so it never healed well =(....

Mederma is expensive, but I'm still on the same tube since my scars healed about 2 weeks after surgery in January!

I used to make bath and body products, including body butter and no, I'm not telling you to make your own lotions and things, but I'll tell you what I tell my old customers...you can take a bottle of high quality body lotion (I recommend Lubriderm because that's what a dermatologist recommended to me once) and add Vitamin E oil, mango butter and shea butter. It's absolutely the most healing butter you'll ever put on your skin and it helps with scars as well.

Jus' sayin ybnormal that it's working for me. I've tried Shea butter and Vitamin E on scars before without success. I'm happy with the Mederma and my results are worth it. The package says to use it asap after skin is healed for better results.

oh i totally get it and if I have the money I may end up investing in some. Right now I probably won't have the money so I'll have to make my own and make due. Although I gotta say, my tummy is pretty much like a road map, so lotion isn't going to help, I may need spackle...

Your scars look excellent! Mine are a little darker red, and I seem to have more? How many incisions did you have in all? I also have the belly piercing scaring LOLtongue.gif but hey there was a time it was....no, there really never was an acceptable stomach for it! Now I might have to post pics of my scars for feedback, but for sure I am going to try out some of this Mederma stuff.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
