I have been lurking around for some time now but decided I will join in and tell my story.

I started looking into WLS a couple of years ago but at that time my insurance didn't cover it. In the fall my husband started a new job so a few months ago I called the insurance company and on the new insurance it is covered. I was so excited! I found a surgeon that I liked and went in for my exam and decided on the sleeve. I started my 3 month diet that was required for surgery and did a bunch of tests that were also required. Not too long ago I found out that my insurance had changed some of it's requirements.

I had read on here about a lot of people who had gone to Mexico for the surgery. At first I thought (no offense) that all of you who went to Mexico were nuts! I kept reading about everyone's experience with Dr. Aceves and decided to give them a call to ask some questions. This was last week. I talked to Nina and there is a special going on if you have your surgery in May. With all of the excellent reviews I have read about Dr. Aceves I decided to talk to my husband about this and see if it was an option. He agreed that it would be fine for me to go ahead and have the surgery done with Dr. Aceves. My date is May 24th. Anyone else going to be there at that time??

This has all gone so quickly and I can't even believe it is really happening and I am so excited and a bit nervous at the same time. I am sure the nerves will kick in even more a few days before I leave.

I keep thinking to myself that I can't wait to be me again. I never grew up heavy, in fact I was thin until I was in my 20's. I have been obese for over 15 years now and am looking forward to my new life that is right around the corner!

I am sure I will have more questions and comment more as the days get closer but for now I just wanted to say "hi".

Thank you! I am so very thankful that my husband has been blessed with a good job and I am able to get this done so quickly. The few months will fly by for you!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
