Calories 4 weeks after Surgery

Recommended Posts

Hi Everyone,

I don't post much, I am more a lurker, I really enjoy reading everyone post and learning a lot form everyone's experience.

I was sleeved on April 6 and I feel great, I have lost about 28 lbs so far.

I have a question about calorie intake after surgery, I have asked the nutritionist at the clinic I go to for a range I should be aiming for and they keep telling me to just eat until you are full, your body will regulate itself. I have been feeling hungry a lot since surgery and have no problems eating, I have been keeping a food diary but today I logged my calories into Fitday and it said I had 1140 Calories, I feel like that might be too much.

Can anyone share what their guidelines for calories per day are?

Thanks,

L

This seems a little high from what I've read here - most folks seem to shoot for around 800. That said, you're losing weight - are you very active?

On the hungry, I'm almost three weeks out and just started to experience this - but I've also noticed heartburn. I read another forum someone who had terrible hunger pangs but started taking chewable antacids and they went away - they were actually acid pains. I've also read lots of people on here say if you're hungry it might be acid.

So I'm going to try the chewable antacids.

I was sleeved on April 6th as well and I've only lost 21lbs but I was on a plateau for a week and boy did I get depressed, cried everything.. :( I can't keep some mushy foods down, it's like they are stuck in my chest area so I am only on Protein shakes - powders?utm_source=BariatricPal&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=CommentLink" target="_ad" data-id="1" >unjury and Mootopia Milk 3x a day and Vitamins.. My weight isn't coming off as quickly as others and that is discouraging as well ... I keep thinking I'm doing something wrong.. I average 80-95g of Protein and maybe 34 carbs and 600 calories... but everyone I've talked too likes to rub in that they lost over 40lbs their first month.. I'm so disappointed I swear I stay in a funk... I'm tired, I'm weak.. I have no get up and go.. I have slight pains under my left breast quick stabbing sharp pains... It's like... What the hell did I do? LOL

Grant it.. Ive lost weight that WONT come back... but I don't know what I'm doing so wrong.. I'm hungry.. like REALLY hungry.. I can drink an drink an drink... but gosh I'd like to have some food at least once...

Any ideas??

Congrats on the weight loss hun.. Keep up the good work.. :) Don't let it get to you like I'm letting it get to me.. :( UGH UGH UGH!!!

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
