lkcraig316 4 Posted May 5, 2011 So I am three days post-op and at home. I know what the requirements are for Water and Protein. However, I am not even coming close. Today I had 1/4 cup SF Jello, 1/2 cup water, 1/3 SF popsicle, and about 2 oz. of Protein shake. I will have more water tonight, but there is no way I'm going to make the requirements. Is this OK and will I be able to get more in as the days go by? I just have no appetite at all right now and I can only tolerate a tiny amount of something before I get sick of it. I had trouble keeping stuff down in the hospital, but that's not the issue anymore. I just don't want anything. (I shouldn't be complaining about that, should I?) mandems mom 3 Posted May 5, 2011 VERY normal...in the early stage, the focus is more on hydration than anything else. As your swelling goes down, you will tolerate things easier. Good luck and congrats!
Infernored 5 Posted May 5, 2011 Start with the Protein first and then add other stuff. I also keep my Protein Shake near me all day until it's gone and sip as much as I can remember.
ToDream 18 Posted May 6, 2011 Perfectly normal. I am 9 days out and I'm still not getting in everything I need to. I think I could only manage 1-2 cups of Water a day in the first days out, everything that I went to try hurt going down and I got a gas bubble. Now I still get a gas bubble but no more pain. But I'm still struggling to get everything in. 2 tablespoons of pureed food and I'm full!
Raine 170 Posted May 6, 2011 It does get easier and better. You may want to try crushing some ice in a blender and just munching on that initially, it will soothe your throat and its Water .I did that for like 3 days. I am on day 8 and I keep a little 12 oz bottle of Water with me all day long. I try to make it through at a minimum of 4 them daily. I wasnt able to do that until day 5 but I kept trying. In the first few days I don't think I got more than 10grams of Protein in, now I am up to 30 with my shakes. I have one for Breakfast instead of coffee, and it takes me about two hours to finish the whole thing and one around early evening. I am going to try and start doing one in the evening but not sure if I'll be able to get the whole thing down. Inbetween that I have SF ice pops and Jello. I have no appetite either, don't feel hunger what so ever, so I feel your pain there when for the first time in our lives, we are not hungry but we HAVE to eat/drink. Good Luck! It does get better and you will do great! Raine
