OK, I am in the hospital, iv in my arm and I am about to go in to surgery at 3:45 pm Central time. I am not nervous, anxious or scared, I am just ready and thirsty and would kill for a hamburger. Thanks for all the support!

Back home today on May 8th, Sunday. OK, now I understand that you really can't understand the surgery, the gas and pain until you experience it. My surgery did not happen until 8 pm at night, yes, nothing to eat or drink since midnight the night before. No fun, but the surgery went smoothly, six incisions rather than 5, and no drain. I was pretty out of it. Day 1 I was fine until the first evening then I had severe nausea and dry heave and bile vomit with blood. The doctors got it under control. I was suppose to go home on 2nd day after surgery, but they kept me one more night. That is when I was able to tell the difference between pain from the surgery (which was really nothing) vs. Gas.

WALK (5 laps for me), USE YOUR BREATHING EXERCISE THING EVERY HOUR (ten blows to at least 2000) , PERIOD!!!!

Seriously, the gas is horrible it feels like someone grabbed your heart and started squeezing HARD, the slowly releasing, evenly spaced like contractions.

Day 3 the last day, zero pain from surgery, but till contracting gas pain. Gasx does not relieve it, only walking and breathing machine helps get the gas out.

Strange thing is when I came home and got on the scale, I somehow put on 2 lbs. ,oh well.

The journey begins, thanks for all the prayers and support.

Best,

Steven

sorry you went through some hard time - Glad your home and feeling better - I have heard that it is normal to gain weight after the surgery as your retaining Fluid from the surgery. Thanks for the pointers, I will definatly use the breathing exercise machine and walk - Tomorrow is my day!

Keep feeling better!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
