Stuck and not going anywhere

Recommended Posts

Hi, My name is Jodi and I am new to the site, I had my surgery 09-10.... I will be 8 mnths post op in a few days and have been stuck at my current weight for about 5 weeks... I lost 42 pre-op, and I have lost 88 lbs since surgery, I lost a lot first few months but slowed down drastically after 3rd month....as I knew it would..... but I am so upset that the scale hasn't moved in a while, and am getting very discouraged.....I have struggled with Protein since day 1 because I can't drink any of the Protein drinks or use the powders, they gag me and I get sick, I also can't eat yogurt for the same reason..... Is there anyone out there that give me any advice, or anything to try,I don't have a local support group because my dr and the hospital is about 1 1/2 hrs away from me.... I greatly appreciate anyone's advice... Thanks!!!

Imagine how I felt when I was JUST sleeved on Feb 28th and already had a stall that lasted 4 weeks!! I put myself back on all liquids for two days and it kick started my weight loss again

Since you have problems with Protein shakes, I would suggest eliminating carbs for a few days and stick to lean Proteins and low sodium Soups. Push yourself to a new exercise level too.

I have already learned EARLY that it is easy to THINK I've only had 900 calories/day but once I started journaling again, I realized I was really eating over 1,200!! It's no wonder I was maintaining as opposed to losing. I would also suggest for YOU to journal your food calories too and be true to yourself.

Funny how the same advice holds true for non WLS peeps too: Eat Less, Exercise More!

You can DO IT!

You need to tell us what you are eating. If we knew the amount of calories and carbs you are eating, we would be able to advise easier.

I really like my fitness pal. It has everything in the data base. I was eating a

lot more calories than I thought, once I started tracking my calories and carbs.

Have you really tried working with the powders? The unflavored powder can be used in so many ways! I had Trader Joes organic Tomato Soup tonight- made sure it was at 130 degrees to prevent clumping and added a scoop of unjury unflavored protein and mixed it very well with a fork. DOn't blend it as the frothiness will put you off. It was awesome and added 20 grams of protein.

My time on this site has proven to me that the formula for weight loss after the sleeve is 1. get all your protein 2. drink the Water 3. low carbs 4. exercise 5. Vitamins. Maybe you need to look at this formula and see which parts of it need beefing up.

Good luck to you!

Well you've been doing something right, 130 lbs in 8 months is terrific!!! Congrats on your success so far. That far out you should be able to eat all kinds of different Protein. You don't have to use the powders. But you do need to get in protein first, limit carbs and plenty of fluids.

How much more weight loss till your at goal? The closer to goal the slower the lbs come off, but you're prob still losing inches. As others said calorie/carb/protein counting really helps. Good luck!!

First of all, congrats on your success. I had been through stalls and gains. For me, Protein intake and exercise has been the key. as long as I was able to get my 60g of protein in and get at least 30 minutes of real cardio in 3x a week I was good. When I deviated, I stalled. Any kind of lean meat or fish are excellent sources of protein. How about cottage cheese? You say you don't like shakes but have you tried making a frozen shake with ice and low fat milk?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
