Please all that can, answer this question for me

Recommended Posts

My surgery is Monday, and my biggest concern is how I will feel after surgery. I had all my pre-op tests done today and was talking to the nurse and was telling her that I have had surgeries in the past and have never had problems with nausea. She looked at me and said, yes, but you havent had a surgery like this in your stomach, this could be different, dont be surprised if your nauseous, and if you get sick the first couple of days.

This kinda freaked me out because I hate being that kind of sick, and I am sure it would really suck with having your stomach cut on.

So please, all of you that can, what did you feel like right after surgery, please be honest, so I know what to expect and maybe I can prepare myself mentally for it.

Thanks so much......

Lots of people on here have been nauseous following this surgery and some even vomited in the hospital, but everyone is different. I was nauseous, but only mildly, and the anti-nausea drugs they gave me through my IV worked wonderfully so I never vomited.

With pain meds i was ok. I felt sick only the first night, then by the second night i was out shopping (in mexico, may be different then here). I heard someone in the room next to me throwing up all night after the same surgery... so i think it varies alot, saw her the second day and she kooked better than me...

In all honesty, in the recovery room, I felt ok but the gas pains were definitely in my chest. made it difficult to breath in the diaphragm area.

when i got to my room ,breathing was still tough but getting better. felt no nausea, gas pains reached into my neck and i was highly uncomfortable in the bed, sitting up even walking. but out of the three, walking was the best.

i did feel nauseas the next morning from getting up and outta bed to pee so much. "threw up" just phlegm the first couple times.

as i was dressing to get discharged that evening, i guess i had moved so much that when i sat down i immediately had to vomit. this too was phlegm mixed with i guess dry blood from tummy. didn't hurt ever, was quite a relief. threw up again when i came home to take the liquid meds, but from then on, i was fine.

i now only feel nauseas when i take my Vitamins because they consistency is disgusting. hate chewables.< /p>

The only time I felt nauseous was the very first time I walked after the surgery - just an hour or two after I got out of the post-op recovery room. I walked about 30 feet and then I was like, WOAH! But that was the only time.

I wasn't nauseous at all the entire time. I usually get sick from anesthesia but they did something magical I swear. Only time I got sick was when I had to drink the nasty blue Water and stuff for the leak test. Puked in the car on the way there and in the lab right when I was being xrayd. lol

Just a little bit the first day in the hospital, and the first day home I ate something really bitter (meds) that made me feel like puking, but I did not ever throw up. Really not that bad at all... after three days, I was up and around.

I absolutely HATE to vomit. I was sick the 1st night, but because I felt kinda out of it anyways, I didn't really clue into it anyways. Make sure you talk to the doctor and tell them your fears. Maybe they can give it to you as a precausion???

I was not nauseous at all--mostly what I felt was thirsty because all I had was an IV for fluids and my mouth was dry. Truthfully, I was pumped full of anti-nausea and pain meds I slept most of the first two days and by the time I was up and dressed on the third day I felt tired, but otherwise fine.

The only time I felt nausea was when they would give me IV Pepcid....the Pepcid caused my saliva glands to work overtime attempting to drown me...like seriously shooting streams of spit out it was gross. My post surgery stuff was different than what people on here have shared. I had a catheter until late afternoon the next day. I was on a morphine pump for pain and an IV until I was discharged on day 2. So I was "mostly" comfortable. I slept essentially the entire first 24hours after surgery and most of the day after as well. Got up to walk with help 3 times on the day after and was doing 3 and 4 laps by the 2nd day after surgery. I have had no nausea since the Pepcid incidents. I feel good (I'm 12 days out now)

I got very nauseous right out of surgery, but it was a reaction to the anaesthesia. I took anti-nausea medication, which totally took care of any nausea after that.

oh man Michelle, you should have put this in the pre-op to make sure everyone can see it. I know almost everyone has this question, it's a good one!

You sound like me! I just threw up once, and that was on day #2 when my iv had trouble and my bp was high. The only other time was when I ate too much a few days ago. I'll try not to do that again ever! Best of luck to you!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
