How much Pre Op Diet weight loss?

Recommended Posts

Day 3 of my pre-op diet...yes, I am starting it 8 days earlier than I have to...can you tell I am ready?

I have lost 8 pounds in 2 days...which I know from previous billions of diets that is all Water weight. Just curious though...about how much is a normal weight loss pre-op?

10 percent of body weight? More? Anyone know?

I am trying to be good at being happy with what happens each moment, but I also do not want to be disappointed...so I want my expectations to be rational.

Any help here for how much I should expect would be great. Thanks!

Joan

Pre- Op diet started May 2nd

Sleeve scheduled for May 24th

How long will you be doing it total? I know that in previous 2 week liquid diets that I've done, I've lost anywhere from 5-10%, closer to 5 on average though.

How tall are you? With your weight being similar to mine, you might have a new stalker.

Got my answer, dang you're tall. LOL. I bet you get that a lot.. I am 5' 7" and three quarters. I round down though. I think as I lose weight I'll stand taller. Or so I hope.

Okay...that was funny!! I am 5' 11'' and I have always joked that I wish I was taller...cuz I'd be thinner...more stretched out, you know? lol

I will tend to drop super fast but I also used to gain it back too. Lost a TON of weight a TON of times like everyone else... I do stick to the plan once decided upon. :) I am planning on doing it until May 24th so a little over 3 weeks. Hoping to lose 30 lbs. Just making sure I wasn't going to be disappointed. Thanks for your reply!

Puppylovemommy...you probably are not doing the diet I am for pre-op. It is basically up to 5 slimfast drinks a day plus one meal of 5oz lean meat, 3 cups non starch veggies and a tbsp of fat. 1000 calories or so. I can only manage to get down 2 or 3 of the drinks...so I'm hitting about 700 calories. Anyone would drop fast on that I bet!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
