chrissie 0 Posted August 29, 2006 Good for you !! just make sure your getting enough protien and taking your Vitamins. Your doing great!! I was banded on Thurs the 24th by Dr. Ortiz I went in @ 214lb and I'm 208 today @ 5 dyas postop. Believe me-I'm not complaining either!! But I am hungry and I have been eating. So far Ive had sream spoup, tomato juice, cream of wheat, a soft boiled egg, and last night I made the family manwitch for dinner and had about 3 bites. I know I shouldnt but its really hard because I don"t have any problems getting food down and I've been hungry! Rumbling in my belly hungry, not head hunger. My husband thought I was crazy, untill I put his hand on my belly and he heard and felt it growling! I am trying to be carefull but...Has anyone else been like this so soon after surgery? besides having the few very small puncture marks, I havent had anything negative. No pain meds since I left on thurs.,just some gas in my left shoulder, but nothing unbearable. I even woke up on my side this morning! Maybe they skiped me? maybe someone else got two bands? HAHAHA. Like I said-I am NOT COMPLAINING!! Does any one feel way BETTER than expected?? Best wishes to everyone being banded this week, August bandeters rock! LittleBird 0 Posted August 29, 2006 I too have lost rapidly. I've lost 10 lbs since my surgery on the 16th. I know this rate of loss will slow as time goes on. That's 10 lbs in 13 days. I'm not worried about it - I've gone from 3000-4000 calories a day to about 500 a day. 3500 calories is one pound, so it makes sense that I'm losing that fast. When our calories increase, our rate of loss will slow down. Enjoy it while it lasts!
msbug 0 Posted August 29, 2006 Jamie, I think it's fine for the first couple weeks post op. Remember, you're losing some of the Fluid they pumped in you too. I've technically lost 17 lbs since surgery on the 15th, but I have to factor in that 9 lbs of that was extra fluids and bloating (I was 9lbs heavier the day after surgery than I was the morning of surgery!). I had my appointment with the surgeon today for follow up and he said I should only try to lose 2 lbs a week from here on out. Not sure how that's going to work for the next week or so though, I've already lost 3 this week! It should stablize in the next couple weeks though and you'll start losing slower. Meanwhile, I got the all clear to move on to purees now! Yippee! How sad is it that I'm excited about eating stuff the same texture as baby food? But I was so tired of pudding and Soup. I pureed some seafood salad for lunch and it was heavenly! I'm doing a chicken breast w/ a little ff sour cream tonight. I'm so happy I can have more flavor now. pebulz 135 Posted August 29, 2006 I also lost quickly at first, 5 days post op i was down 10.5lbs i just went for my next appt 2 since my 5 day post op and I only lost 7lbs but they said that is really good so i'm now down 33.5lbs total. I have been on a total liquid diet and now I am allowed to eat soft foods and so I just got home and cooked some fish and green Beans but I'm just looking at it. I'm scared to actually eat it's been 3 weeks with NO food at all and now I'm afraid to eat.
GE Mom 0 Posted August 29, 2006 Oh, No!!! I had lost 21 pounds within the first 2 weeks after my surgery. Now I've been stuck there for a week and I've now gained a pound. I just moved from liquids to purees. Should I go back to liquids?? And also, now my port is really hurting. What's wrong?
wavydaby 1 Posted August 29, 2006 GE Mom, you are ok. You are building up matter in your colon. DONT go back to liquids because you think you are gaining weight. Please make sure you are getting in your Water and your protien. If you are, you will be ok. As far as the port hurting. Where is it? Mine is at my bra line and I layed on my stomach last night and its hurting me now. Think of the last 24 hrs and think if you turned the wrong way or bumped it. The port and the weight gain shouldnt have anything to dowith each other.
GE Mom 0 Posted August 29, 2006 Thanks, Jill. That's a horrifying thought, building up matter in my colon. (Does that mean I must be full of s***?) I think I may be short of both Protein and water.... I'll work on both. About the port. It's right between my waist and my bra. (After reading about that issue on this board, I interrogated my surgeon about where to put it, and he marked a spot to put it. I'm short-waisted so there is really only about 2" to work with, but I think he got it in the right place.) This is a deep inside, very sharp, intermittent pain and it's been going on since Friday. I called the nurse and she said they get a lot of complaints about port pain. It only happens when I move, or sit up, or lie down, or reach around... Any other ideas? wavydaby 1 Posted August 29, 2006 Yup, they sewed that sucker to our abdominal muscles. I hate to sneeze. It kills me. I hope that when I am cleared to go back to excercising (end of sept) It will be all healed up and i wont have that issue. I have a spot on the right handside where they stuck something in for the laproscopic instruments that I have to be very careful with when i get out of bed or roll over. I hit the alarm clock like I always do (quick reach over and smack it) and thought, betwnen that spot and the port, I was gonna die. (And dont worry, Im right there and full of it too )
trizzy 0 Posted August 29, 2006 I don't know if this will help or not but My Doc said they have to put the port tube through the muscle wall and stitch it into place. He said some of the pain --the sharp, stabbing pain, may be from pulling on the stitches---like when you bend down, get up, reach around etc.... I don't think it is anything to reallyworry about---but if it is REALLY bad I would definetly talk with some one!!!!Hope all is better soon!!!:phanvan
Caroline 0 Posted August 29, 2006 GE MOM Could you have pulled a muscle in you stomach? If you are in a lot of pain moving around, I'd get to the doctors office ASAP -
RLittman 4 Posted August 29, 2006 1/2 a cheeseburger! Are you crazy girl??? Go slow with the solids. Forget bread for now and try to eat foods separately. I don't care how well you chew, that combo is not going to go down. Use the fear of that happening again to keep away from that kind of food. I ventured into the solids a little but now I am more 75% soft, mushy foods and 25% solid (tuna, chicken) Welp, I had my first PB last night. Bad Libra!! Bad, bad Libra!!! I had been doing so well on mushies that I thought. "Hey, I can handle a hamburger" So I had 1/2 a hamburger on a plate and some mashed potatoes. I made some brown gravy to help get it down. :hungry: I was a good girl, chewed and chewed and chewed. I managed to eat the hamburger and about a tablespoon of potatoes. Needless to say, ten minutes later I stated getting a pain in my chest. Kind of like a knife into my breast bone, then a sudden feeling of nausea. Actually it felt like the food was stuck in my throat. And then...all hell broke loose!!!! I was at my parents house and my dad was panicking. He kept yelling to me in the bathroom, "Are you okay?" (Sorry Dad, too busy puking my guts out to answer!!!) If you can picture this...(or maybe you don't want to :phanvan ) I'm leaning over the toilet making these horrible loud sounds. I was trying to be quiet about it but I couldn't. Can you imagine I was trying to be polite? LOL!!! Anyway, I don't think I'm ready for solids yet, LOL!!!! I think after experiencing my first PB, I am going to be VERY careful not to overeat. That was an experience I really don't want to repeat...EVER! Cheers to all the August Bandsters!!!!!!! We Rock!!!:clap2: :clap2: :clap2: :clap2:

Be very careful, I was banded on 8/16 by Dr Ortiz and the day before he had to re-band a girl that ate chicken 4 days post-op and slipped her band. He made her go to all of our rooms to talk to us. Dr Miranda said no solid food for 21 days. Good luck, go slow.
msbug 0 Posted August 30, 2006 libra, sorry you had to have that first pb. Bet it taught you a good lesson though! I had a cheeseburger tonight and it tasted divine! Of course, I pureed it in the food processor with some ff dressing till it looked like cat food. But it still tasted great! whimsicalclay, glad your surgery went well! I was the unlucky one who gained 9 lbs of Fluid, so I'm happy to hear that seems to be the exception, not the rule. Take it easy the next few days.
Happy2BMe 0 Posted August 30, 2006 Hi guys, I'm going in for my surgery in the am....have to be there at 7:30 with surgery at 9. I'm excited but nervous at the same time. Ok, gross question, but I started my period tonight. Has anyone had this happen right before surgery?
