August Band Crew!!!!!

Hi Diana,

Thanks! Will definitely take socks with me. Hadn't even thought of that. Seems we are both in about the same boat...self pay, close in height and almost identical in beginning weight.

Nooooooo! I was told that I could have tuna, salmon, ground meat or chicken, but even then I had to eat slowly and chew it to mush in my mouth. I started with baby foods and then pulsed chicken and beef in my processor until very fine. I still find tuna too dry to eat.

quote=faybie]Robin,

I have Dr. Spivak too and he told me the only meat that I could eat my first month after banding was fish while I was in the "mushy" phase. Did you not get that same instruction?

I am on day 4 of my 2 week pre-op diet. 5 Medifast shakes a day, and a small (200-300 cal) meal. 10 more days of this! :faint: I’m hungry and cranky. And tired because my brand-new CPAP machine is annoying. The mask makes my nose hurt. :hurt Yeah, I can try different ones, but I have to drive downtown, about an hour if there is any traffic. I’m having second thoughts about this surgery thing, it’s a lot of money! And what if it doesn’t work? <O:p</O:p

<O:p

OK, I think that’s it. For now.

Hi Lisa!

I was banded by Dr. M on 8/8, and I empathize with your pre-op liquid struggles ... so hard to do!!! Truly tough. I didn't have to do the CPAP thing, but you have all my sympathy about it - what a pain!

As far as pre-surgery doubts - I assume you talked to Linda at NWWLS? When I told her my confidence level was only a 4 or 5 out of 10 that this would work for me, she said, "You're not that special. It will work." :-) Of course she said it in a sweet way, but now that I'm on the other side I see what she meant. Unless I have milkshakes every day, the tool is going to work. Like someone said on another thread, it keeps working even when your motivation wanes (which mine has done on every other plan I've tried).

So just be patient with the process, and with yourself, and good luck!! :clap2:

Thanks! Dr M is great, isn't he? He did DH's banding 2 years ago.

Yep, I talked to Linda, and I love that saying. Jessie uses it too, in fact I almost posted "What if I AM that special"! :rolleyes

I've been sooo excited, I set this all up way back in June, and now that it's suddenly so close it seems more real.

If anyone would like to know about my experience at Bajanor in Tijuana, Mexico just let me know.

Sorry I do not post much... but I do read often and check in on everyone's progress and I AM SO PROUD!

Hi all,

Just wanted to update, I am 11 days out and feeling really good. I have some port pain but it is just "uncomfortable" I haven't even felt a need for tylenol. Still on liquids, I am starting to feel hungry. I have been eating Soup, Water, yogurt and Protein Drinks. According to the the doc it will be another week before I can go to solid foods. I am feeling ready but I understand the implications if I don't adhere to the instructions.

My clothes are getting big and friends are starting to notice that I have lost some weight. When I think about losing the 20+ lbs that I have already lost, I see 2 10lb bags of potatoes and realize that is a lot of mass to lose.... very cool.

TerryB - COOL! Having loose clothes and people notice is such a great sign you are getting smaller.

Hi Everyone, My name is Jewel, I had surgery Thursday August 17th, it's been more painful than I expected...and the pain is just in my port area, wow...hurts!!!! I did start having problems with vomiting, just a little bit, but that has passed, I am beginning to feel that"full" feeling everyone keeps telling me about. I am so very hungry all the time, I hope that feeling subsides.....SOON!! LOL My husband would always Joke with me saying by having the Lap Band it was pushing the "easy button"

Well, I have news for him!!! I think he should get on here and read everyones posts, it isn't the easy button, it is just the opposite.

I am glad I have all of you on here, I don't feel alone in all this.

So nice to meet ya and Good luck in all the days to come.

Love,

Jewel

They say that women have 10 x more pain threshold than men- hence why men don't give birth. I've got an idea, stab your husband - like we've been stabbed, and then say "easy button"

I did not return to exercise for at least 6 days after surgery. I did a little treadmill and recumbent bike. I listened to my body and stopped when I started to feel tired or sore. By day 11 post surgery, I was back to my full exercise routine.

I was banded August 11! I was wondering how much exercise you all can do?? I am afraid that I am already not exercising enough??!

I am getting hungry!!!! And the wierd part is that I am on mushies but tuna salad (with lots of mayo) felt stuck-no pb or anything but I stopped eating it right away. It felt stuck for the rest of the day. But it went away and I ate dinner but am def. losing that restricted feeling of the surgery swelling I had before.

Everything else is great-incisions getting itchy! LOL! If that tuna didn't bother me and I didn't have the incisions I wouldn't even know anything had been done to me.

I know from reading I have to wait till I am filled which is in 3 more weeks!

My most heartfelt good wishes go out to everyone being banded this week!!!!!!

Good luck!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
