August Band Crew!!!!!

Recommended Posts

I look at it this way. Eating a birthday cupcake, or even ribs, is not going to make a difference in the long run. Now, if I started buying them every week, and eating them every day - bad. But soda can stretch out that band FOREVER, so even if it is diet soda, it's bad. I used to drink it all day constantly, and I miss it, too. I feel that if I REALLY want some, I will pour it in a glass and let it sit in the fridge all night so it totally goes flat - I bet that only a sip will do it. I am a little panic-stricken when I think that I can never have a beer again, but I bet when the time comes that I am offered one, I will be able to deal with it.

Anything that doesn't go down easily is going to hurt me, because if I throw up, I can easily dislodge the band (because of my hiatal hernia). So, for me, eating a cupcake, which dissolves, is better than having a slice of bread, or rice, if it's going to clump up. I used to LOVE hot french bread with butter, but can easily go without ever eating it again, if it's going to undermine this band.

My husband is my inspiration, I guess. He had two life-threatening cases of acute pancreatitis, where he was not supposed to survive. It was from high triglycerides, so he is permanently on a very-low fat diet, where he can't drink. He recently developed diabetes, so now sugar is out, too. There is nothing that he would love more than fried chicken, a deep dish pizza or a big plate of ribs, but he likes being alive more. So he will cheat and have a cupcake or a couple of french fries once in a while, but most days, every day, he eats healthy, because he has to.

I just made a little baked potato, and a little piece of salmon, and I realized halfway through that I really wasn't hungry like when I started, and I gave the rest of it to the dogs. It's so weird, when you are used to eating everything on your plate. I just ate what I would have eaten during one meal over four meals. But I still had (diet) butter and (nonfat) sour cream on that potato - no one is going to tell me that they are better without it!!!

Had my surgery 8/16, feeling better than I thought I would. Had some Tomato Soup which could have been filet it tasted so good. I miss my surgery compadres Littlebird and Kirsten117, hopefully Richard found the boards. I'm avoiding the scale because I still feel bloated, but I did lose 19 lbs pre-op with carnation instant Breakfast. Good luck to everyone going soon, it'll be well worth it.

Patti

Awwwwwwwww......I miss you guys too! :cry Just remember....We're all going to meet again on a cruise next year, right?????

I'm doing good on my liquids. Just sticking to some Gatorade, broth, and watered down juice so far. I finally had a bit of Jello today because I felt hungry for the first time. I went to my dad's suprise birthday party last night and didn't even feel tempted with the food, and boy did it look good. :clap2: I am feeling a bit hungry tonight again, but I seem to do okay after drinking. I'm just trying to hold out till day 8 when I get to add some yogurt. I had major gas until last night. I was up and around on my feet a lot, but don't think I was really "walking" enough. I feel so much better now. No pain anymore, but I'm having a major allergy attack so I'm miserable tonight.

Hi everybody,

I am new to this forum however I was just banded last week in Langhorne,Pa by a great Dr. I am experiencing alot of swelling in the port side and it is hard to get up and down or out of bed. I have been good keeping everything down no nausea or vomitting. Im following my liquid diet. I am concerned howlong this discomfort will last. Can anyone give me any input?

Cher:confused:

Just wanted to check in. I'm over 2 weeks out now and feeling really good. Fitting in to clothes I couldn't and I'm down 19 pounds. I am starting to feel more hungry. Eating 4 oz doesn't seem like it satisfies me for very long like it did a week and a half ago. I'm still eating way less then before though. I'm just happy to be off the liquid diet "THANK THE LORD!!!!"

All you newcomers, hang in there! Good luck to those who are to be banded this week!

I had my surgery a week and a half ago, and my port STILL hurts a lot. It's still swollen, and the fat hangs over my waistband, which irritates it. Bending over hurts, sitting up hurts - the only thing that doesn't hurt is lying down on an angle. So it's not just you!!!

thank you RLITTMAN, I CAN'T BELIEVE IT IS FINALLY HERE! MY FRIEND WAS REALLY SCARED BUT I AM JUST HAPPY! JUST THE THOUGHT OF BEING NORMAL AGAIN, I CAN'T STOP SMILING! I'M FINISHING UP MY LAST SHIFT AT WORK AND WILL BE HOME BY 9:30. I HAVE ALL MY THINGS I BOUGHT FOR POST SX IN A BAG SO I DON'T HAVE TO LOOK FOR IT. JUST NEED MY PILLOW AND SOCKS. LOL

LADYDI

LOL! I did a double take. What did you buy for post-sex ? I might be interested as well.

I go in for surgery at 6:30 tomorrow morning (the 22nd). I'm rather nauseos from the liquid diet. Supposed to be on totally clear fluids today, so I'm confused when they said to drink the Protein Drinks (she told me Atkins Hi Protein). Those are NOT clear.

Betty,

I'm going in tomorrow morning too and I've been on Clear Liquids since yesterday. The clear Protein drinks are called Isopure or stacker 2 also makes a "protein water" but they are both clear, I wouldnt drink Atkins ones if you can't see through them. But thats just me, and I'm not the Doc so if you want to be sure I'd call.

I'm Back!!!!! You were all right, I did call the doctor for the nausea and vomiting...and ended up back in the hospital. I was dehydrated and needed to be put on IV for two days. They also gave me medication for nausea until it subsided. He said it was most likely a reaction to the anesthesia.

My husband said he knew I was feeling better when I started complaining about the woman I shared a room with. She kept turning off the air conditioning and opening the windows and it was 95 degrees!!! There was sweat dripping down my face for 2 days!!! Grrrr!!!

I am feeling soooooo much better now. I slept on my side last night for the first time with no discomfort. And I had my 2 year old home with me for the first night since before my surgery. (My mom was watching him) Just cuddling with him made me feel better.:bounce:

Good to see all our August Bandsters feeling okay and doing well. :clap2: Good luck to those getting banded!!!

Silly question...has any of your families said they didn't want to eat in front of you? I've had to ensure my family that it was okay for them to eat. As if I'd attack the kitchen table or something! LOL!!!

Libra.. Yes people worry about eating in front of me as well. "is this ok? Is it ok?" I said "as long as I have something to eat as well I'm fine. Eat all you want, I don't care!!!"

I called the doctor's office and they said 3-4 Atkins Hi Protein drinks, and all the clear liquids I cared for. Apparently it is more important to get the protein than for the liquids to be clear!

Yesterday, I pulled out the crock pot and put in a roast, Onions, potatoes, carrots and some herbs (rosemary, oregeno and Thyme) and lots of Water. Put it on high for 8 hours. Hubby thought it was a little runny, but I strained the broth, and it was like the nectar of the gods (especially after a week of atkins shakes).

Anyway, I divided some into containers and into the freezer. Also took some of the broth, potatoes and carrots which I dropped in the food blender for when I'm ready for soft food. YUM. Also made up some Jello in small containers (no reds - bummer) However, I did find some pineapple jello this past weekend. Sounds interesting!

Tonight - I'm going to do the same thing with a chicken so that I'll have plenty of hearty broth instead of that canned water stuff.

Libra, glad you called your doc! My dh is very conscious of eating in front of me too. Not so much now as when I was in the pre-op diet. I told him not to worry, what he's eating doesn't even look good!

Good luck to all those getting banded this week!

I have eaten chicken, Pasta, eggs, cheese, and sausage.

Robin,

I have Dr. Spivak too and he told me the only meat that I could eat my first month after banding was fish while I was in the "mushy" phase. Did you not get that same instruction?

I had my surgery a week and a half ago, and my port STILL hurts a lot. It's still swollen, and the fat hangs over my waistband, which irritates it. Bending over hurts, sitting up hurts - the only thing that doesn't hurt is lying down on an angle. So it's not just you!!!

Badmadmama,

I haven't been banded yet but the location of my port is very important to me. Already before banding, my underwire bra hurts and irritates the fat on my stomach when I sit, so the fold on the top of my stomach hits my underwire. I get sore there often already and I mention this to Dr. Spivak. I am sorry that you are in so much pain. :cry Thanks to your post, I am going to voice this as a HUGE concern of mine to Dr. Spivak the day of my surgery now.

LOL! I did a double take. What did you buy for post-sex ? I might be interested as well.

Ha ha Betty, your mind is in the gutter. I think she meant post surgery when she said "Post SX". LOL

Libra, I am glad to hear you are feeling better. I am also glad you called the Dr.

Henderson925, Welcome to the forum!:clap2:

Grats to all of you August banders so far. LOL. I was gonna go through the posts and list all of you guys.... but LOL I realized I don't have the time.

My family was so concerned about it that I caught them one night eating chocolate cake in the kitchen so I would not be tempted. I gave them all a big hug and had just a little taste of icing! Their eating does not bother me because once I'm fulled I am not interested in food.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

      2. BlondePatriotInCDA

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
