GE mom...glad to see you're doing well. And Yay to all the other August bandsters that have had their surgeries!!! You're all so positive and upbeat...good for you!!!

Bug, you and I are on the same day...ONE WEEK!!! I am a bag of mixed emotions right now. I saw my regular doc last night and although I never had high blood pressure before, it was up...and he asked if I was nervous!! DUH!!!!

((((Big hugs to all the August bandsters!!! You rock!!)))):clap2:

well I am home! It was not so bad. I have a little gas. The incision sites feels a little achy. I am still under the influence of Lortab. :huggie: Everyone at Vista Hospital were so nice and my anesthesiologist was hot:kiss2: I was most nervous about going under. But, it was fine.

I wanted to let the soon to be banded know it will be OK.

Welcome Home Texas!

Congratulations on getting through the banding. Whew. I'm getting banded in a week and I'm getting nervous...but in a "I'm going on American Idol" kind of way, not "I have to speak at a convention and I haven't written my speech yet" kind of way. I'm excited and I feel prepared and ready for it.

Thanks for sharing. Every August bander I hear that did well makes me feel better and better.

Diva,

Well, it is Monday night, and I had my surgery Wens night, and I am certainly not ready for a full day's work. I was on slimfast for a while and did loose 15 pounds before surgery, went in at 264, but have lost only 3 pounds since then. Program told me I would be so pumped up with liquids that it may take a few days, I just hope I feel better or up to snuff soon- interesting tufts didn't keep you overnight, did you have to do a swallow Upper GI picture??

all the best

Caroline

First and most importantly -- good luck, prayers, and well-wishes to those of you that are having surgery this week!!

Tomorrow will be 1 week with my new band -- I have worked all day both yesterday and today. I won't say that I am at 100% -- I am more tired than normal and have some pain at the end of the day, but I'm able to do my job and get around fine.

Today I got a little crazy and tried a new food -- peanuts. So far I've really stuck to liquids even though my Dr's diet allows more. I tried the peanuts on a tip from a friend who was banded 6 years ago in Mexico. She told me they were great b/c they have a lot of Protein and they fill the pouch and stay there for a while. She was right. I gingerly ate about 1/2 of a small bag (probably about 1/2 oz) and voila, I was full. It was my first experience of really feeling that way. I ate them at around 4:30 and was fine until almost 9 when I could get home to have another small meal.

In some ways I think these early days of being banded are easier because I can do liquids and feel satiated. I know those days are numbered and it will be more difficult when the swelling goes down.

I truly feel like I have started a new life -- May we all have a new, healthier banded life!

Clarityseeker,

Thanks for the tip...peanuts huh? Sounds like you're doing well.

Anyone have suggestions about lifting? I have a toddler and I'm getting worried that I'm not going to be able to lift him (he's 37 pounds) to put him in his car seat, or change his diaper, etc. Did anyone get any advice about how soon after surgery you can lift? My husband will be able to help when he's home but he does have to work.

Today is day 6. The first day I can walk around or sit without a pillow pressed against my tummy. My tummy no longer feels like it is pulling. This morning was the first morning I could get up from laying down (still on 3 pillows) without rolling to the right and lifting up with my right arm so the left side wouldn't pull or hurt like hell. The incisions are starting to itch a little due to healing. I am not taking the percocet only liquid tylenol. I am head hungry. When I drink my CIB I do get "full". If I drink a lot of Soup I do get "full". I am still somewhat black and blue around the incisions esp around the main one (not the port) where they go in. In fact it is indented but is started to fill out again. My hands are still somewhat black and blue from the needles. I am dying to have some mushies. I wouldn't pick up anything heavy (like an infant) for another week or so. I will probably drive today and try to go back to work tomorrow or Friday.

Best advice I have: stick to your doc's diet, not other bandsters. Don't think that you won't hurt but it is manageable and goes. Go by your own healing timeline not anyone else's.

Good luck to all being banded this week!!!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
