August Band Crew!!!!!

Hi all,

Yep the percoset is cut in quarters and it works like a charm. I started out with 2 every 4 hours and now I only take 1/2 or 1 at night. They had me sipping and taking them before I left the hospital to see how the swallowing went. I'll start the liquid tylenol today and see how it goes. The pain is def still there esp when I wake up or get up. I am going to try and go back to work on Thursday. So no more percosets!

Caroline, I am in Boston too. Had mine done on the 4th at Tufts NEMC. Long program but very well done. I'm very happy with them. I had BCBS & it paid for everything except a $250 co pay. I was in at 6:30 am for 7:30 surgery and home by 3:00 pm.

I do not have gas problems at all. I firmly believe it is because I did an enema the night before so I was completely empty. (the pain in your shoulder is due to gas pain-use the search tool here on LBT, someplace there is a great thread on it). I was not told to do the enema nor was told to do liquid diet just lose 20 pounds.

I'm on full liquids and def feeling full. But I really enjoyed my Soup yesterday!!!

My tummy is still distended. And I am black and blue around some of the incisions.

Any questions-fire away.

Best of love and luck and safe surgery wishes for those getting banded this week! Go!

Cathy,

Thank you so much for saying that. I can hardly wait to see mine too. We were literally best friends and me and my father were by her side to the very end. I took over 2 months off from my job to be with her in the end night and day and I miss her enormously. It was so tramatic that my hair in the past 9 months has all been turning gray and I am only 31!!! I went to the rifle range with my husband a while back and the guy working it referred to me as my hubbys mother!!! YIKES! So i think I'm going to be dying my hair soon. hehehe.

I love port huron too. I live 2 hours away from there but when I'm over there I love to walk the boardwalk they have along the river. It's very nice.

Where are you from?

My banding surgery was yesterday. It went very well. I spent several hours in intensive care until they figured out that I was too alert to be in the ICU, whereupon I was transferred to a single regular room. I had some trouble overnight in keeping my oxygen levels in the right range, probable due to the dilaudid and/or general anesthesia. Every time I'd drift off to sleep, the oxyen levels would drop and a loud alarm would go off. This happened at least a dozen times. But I'm home now and doing fine.

do you have sleep apnea, GE? That might be why. I had trouble with mine too at first so I had to have one of those lovely oxygen tubes across my nose. Dried my nose out bad!

Congrats GE Mom! It does sound like sleep apnea. My son has central sleep apnea, which is different than obstructive, and his oxygen levels drop when he sleeps to. Nothing to do about it in his case, we just have to have him on an oxygen monitor every night and when the alarms go off wake him up so the levels go back to normal. Did you have a sleep study done?

Hey all you August people... I just found out that I am being moved to Sept. What a let down. Here I was ready for Friday and have everything ready to go and the doctors office called and said that my doctor is cancelling all his surgeries until Sept. He is out sick. Now, I am just sick. Another whole month. What a disapointment!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Welcome to this site which is full of support and helpful tools. I was banded on August 2 and have already lost 8 pounds since surgery last Wednesday. I am finally feeling back to normal, can now feel my port under the skin, can feel fullness, and when I have eaten too quickly and have that golfball feeling. But I am feeling good and losing weight! Adding what I have lost to the pre-op weight loss I have now lost a total of 15 pounds and my clothes are definitely looser. Be prepared for the best change in your life! So go for it!!

You guys are sharp! Yes, I was diagnosed with severe sleep apnea after my sleep study on July 14. I now have an autopap machine. The machine is not making a major difference in my quality of life but I'll give it time. Hopefully, I'll lose enough weight that I won't need it forever. Last night when I was having trouble with my Oxygen levels, I was on the hospital's cpap machine which seemed to be working fine. Every time I started to drift off to sleep, this obnoxious alarm would go off. Finally, the nurse stopped the CPAP machine and put me on pure oxygen by nasal prongs. That worked, but I didn't get to sleep until 4am. So today I'm grumpy -- but very glad the surgery is over, went well etc. The people at the hospital were just great.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
