4th day of Pre Op Diet - What I discovered

Recommended Posts

Today is the 4th day of my pre-op liquid diet. I have 10 days to go but that's ok. The first 3 days were the hardest like everyone said but I have discovered a very good coping skill....STAY AS FAR AWAY FROM THE KITCHEN AS POSSIBLE. Everything smells good...even the garbage. But after the 3rd day it really was fine. I have been drinking the Protein Shakes furnished by my doctor and in between I will sip on chicken broth. I made some before hand and froze it cause I don't like the canned stuff. But what I discovered yesterday that really brought me to my knees was Wonton Soup (sans the wonton). The Water or juice was wonderful.....I heard music when I sipped it OMG!. Drinking atleast 4 shakes a day and sipping broth or this wonderful wonton has made things a lot easier to tollerate. Staying busy helps too cause God knows I think about food all the time. 10 more days to go before my new tummy "Little Sleevie Wonder" arrives.

Where do you get the won ton Soup? I remember my father used to get it in a can but I haven't seen it in ages.

I get mine at the Chinese Restaurant ( take out). I just get me a quart of the soup without the noodles. Yummy! Most Chinese rest carry some form of it.

I did the same with the egg drop Soup from the local Chinese Restaurant lol. It was heavenly.

Yep I looked at the egg drop soup but I was scared to try it during this phase of my diet. All Soups have to be clear (broth). But I know it was good! :P At this point I am so dang grateful to have anything tastey to eat or....slurp from a cup.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
